I have probably found a solution to the problem. Find your documents folder and go to the Mafia Definitive Editions directory
. There you look for the folder "aslot" and in this folder you change the file "save0". With change I mean that you use an editor of your choice and delete a few lines in this directory and save the file

\aslot\ folder (...\Documents\My Games\Mafia Definitive Edition\Data\"a long number"\gamesaves\default\aslot\).

I've been playing Mafia: Definitive Edition recently and aside from one huge issue it plays very well.
