First of all, back up your entire save folder: \Documents\My Games\Mafia Definitive Edition\
Then go to \Documents\My Games\Mafia Definitive Edition\Data\"a long number"\gamesaves\default\aslot\
In this folder, save0.sav is the most recent autosave which is updated as you reach autosave points during the chapter. save2.sav is from the beginning of the chapter. save1.sav is for Free Ride and irrelevant here.
Delete save0.sav, create a copy of save2.sav and rename this copy to save0.sav
When you now launch the game and continue the story, you will find yourself at the beginning of the chapter.
I went to Documents\My Games\Mafia Definitive Edition\Data\ as suggested above, but it is *completely* empty.
The Documents\My Games\Mafia Definitive Edition\Data\Saves\ folder has just launcconfig and videoconfig files.
I have been playing games for decades and I have lost progress randomly before. This is, however, the FIRST TIME my ENTIRE progress is TOTALLY wiped out RIGHT AFTER THE VERY FINAL ACT OF THE GAME.
I am bummed and beyond glad I didn't buy this crap. I knew when Hangar 13 refused to release Next-Gen, 60 FPS patches for XBOX/ps - even though they released just 2 months after their game - that they were lazy developers.
But this is a new low. Literally a game-breaking bug that sucks 20+ hours of playtime into a black hole.
At least it is a narrative game with zero post-story sandbox or choice/variation so I can just watch the ending on YouTube, but still... what a mess. Stay away from this game, not worth the hassle.
