Once I'm done, can I do something next, like exploring the map? Various trips or side quests I'm making a purchase decision.

As far as open world games go, this one is pretty linear. There are a few very minor side missions, but no major activities or anything like that to do. The game is mostly the story chapters.

Once you finish the game, you can go in free roam to drive cars, find collectibles etc, or you can replay chapters. That's about it, this is a far cry from something like GTA.

Riding a taxi? Most people don't know this.

I did not know this, however, would anyone really be able to squeeze more than 30 minutes of enjoyment out of this. There's no money in this game so aside from feeling like a cabbie, it'd get pretty repetitive pretty quickly. There is also the autodrome racing if you're into that. I despise racing in any game but if that sells the game to OP, fair enough.
Well, probably people are. Even on TikTok there are some people streaming riding through the streets, even Mafia 1
I agree with the not wanting to race. In any game. Just don't like it. And with a clock most of the times grrrr...
yeah, after you play the mario kart mode once, there's no point in messing around in the drome. most of the time i spent in free ride was spent doing the fox and hound missions.

In original Mafia you could at least enter the trams and metro and troll gangsters and police shooting them from there. Here they have taken away even this possibility

So just to check, if I finish the entire storymode, I can still go through to get the cards, magazines, foxes, collect up cars, etc... without issue? First time I've ever played 'Mafia 1' here.

For the most part, yes. From the main menu you can enter free roam which gives you access to most of the map. There are some collectables that are mission locked, meaning they can only be obtained within specific chapters. You can just load a chapter, get the collectables, and then quit once you have it.

There's a setting somewhere that lets you press Q to skip non-essential drives. If you're hunting for collectables then I would use this to make it a little quicker.

If you are a completionist and want all of the collectables, I would use an interactive map so you know which collectables you already have. mapgenie is good but has a 50 found limit on the free account. guides4gamers has one with no limit which I used for my playthrough.

Ah perfect, thanks for the answer. As said I'm new to this series (I played 'Mafia 2' years ago but barely remember it) and like to 100% games, the chapter replay ability should help with all this.
