Beating up the thugs.... the BIG thug.
I am left handed and I have my buttons all mapped to NumPad and buttons around that area.
I'm having issues now with the melee combat vs the gang of thugs. Specifically the big thug. I've beat him down a bunch, but he never loses. The videos I've seen show use of a knife along with the wood plank and also melee with a kick. There's no option in the keyboard list to map a key that does the kick. What key is it by default so what key do I need to remap ? OR is this *another* bug ?:steamsalty:

i know the default for counter is left-alt, i wonder if that's the issue.
that boss fight, you don't need to use the the weapons around. just hitting the counter button consistently during the fight should win it for you.
the kick is just the melee button, i don't know if it's distance or the number of hits in the combo.

I never got a combo hit at all. But finally won.

I read on another forum that there's a bug when remapping keys and going to default
fixes some issues. I reset my custom binds and re-added them again. I also restarted the chapter grabbing the knife this time. It still took a whopping 5 minutes, but the game
finally acknowledged that I'd won. I had the guy in the corner for most of that time.
That was just weird. And this is on easy b/c it's what I had it on from the race mission.
I cannot imagine what would be if it were on classic given how long it took to get the game to register the win.

i've only played this game on classic, and 5 mins is about right for the entire fight (goons + boss). though it was more like watching a movie considering you pretty much have to get the counter every time. if not for the cinematic quality, i think this fight would be boring.

Mine was 5m ONLY for the big guy though. He also repeated his lines no less than 3x each in that 5m. That's why I though something was up. Countering his moves with a full 60s of continuous hits didn't phase him. I missed one swing and he was on me for 2 hits before I got in another 45s of continuous hitting. That was when it finally threw in the towel and gave me the ending. And as I might have said this is on easy. What would it be on hard?

The big guy (and the others as well) go down for the count if you hold the attack button down. That causes your character to hit harder. It took a fights against the main bad guy before I figured that one out :)

There's no holding it. I'm on mouse and keyboard. The game allows a press.
Holding does nothing more than delay using the defense option.
Either way I long ago beat them.
IDK exactly what I did but it eventually after the 5th time restarting let me win.

I actually finished Mafia and Mafia 2 also. Trying the Mafia 2 extra content
missions I guess this was DLC but it came w/ the Definitive Edition.

I play on mouse and keyboard too. The attack button behaves differently depending on how long you hold it down. If you quickly push the attack button you hit faster but with less power. You need to knock the big guy down by holding the button down, otherwise the flight will never end.
