Too much slang? Hard to understand?

Well I speak good english in the common life, but this game... I understand the happening but those lines duh, I understood even GTA San Andreas better with all those hood bulls*it, was the original game this "cool" too? I can't remember but I doubt it since that one is made by a Czech group. Also, do you think the same or its just me?

lets see hmm like when Tommy tells the detective that "frank made us straight" (after that scene comes when Frank tells the story of the dog) or something like that and I was like "now that means good or bad?!" lol :D or there was a line about some "heater" and I dont think they meant the thing that produces heat in the homes lol , more like a gun or something

first let's say my primary language is different with yours so if you can't convert english slangs to your mother language i can't too because i don't know your language , i know english and i'm learning german for now !!!

but made us straight means he was honest and clear to me and didn't hide anything about his past !!!

that heater part is like , when you are in pain or you have wounds you need something to treat your wounds like blanket as he said in that dialouge !!! so sarah gave tommy a hug until his wounds and pain became calm !!! it's like when in english songs a lover say to his crush you are my remedy !!!

yea well sorry if i dont know these stuff, I admint that I can't catch up with these non-existing words, I just ask if I am the only one who noticed that ... but on the flipside, I understand neither when the dialogs way too over sophisticated like in Oblivion or Skyrim

They're genuine old world American slang from the 1920s-40s. A Heater is a gun. You can look up old slang and there are some helpful lists. You won't find modern Americans using these phrases now however so it can seem odd.

I can't remember the scene where he said "Frank made us straight" but usually it means good, correct, on the right path, or putting someone or something in line or correcting someone or something. If you had lost money and it was replaced you were made straight. If someone was disrespectful you could "straighten" them out.

There's likely a few dozen of these older slang phrases in the game and they likely don't translate well. If you had ever watched old 1930s American gangster films a lot of these phrases will come up as well.

When Tommy drives the Don to the restaurant in the mission "bon apetite", before they leave their bar the Don asks "you got a piece on you?" which means do you have a gun with you? But I've never heard that before... and the game is full of with these phrases :D But if you say these were common back in days and faded nowdays I understand, thanks for the info. Old movies doesnt count for me because I watch them with my native language audio voiceover.

that piece is like that thing . . . . this wasn't so much hard to understand dude !!!

its like today's slang "Are you down?" which means Are you in in something? But if you dont know the meaning you think it means somebody is on the floor or something lol

nah i always saw that "are you down"? when somebody ask somebody else if he is in, like in GTA when they wanted to rob a bank or something... But phrases have million meanings sooo i guess we are both right

Oh the vernacular was very much in common usage at the time, that's why it's so awesome. There are websites devoted to the definition of slang terms that you could always look for. I'm a big fan of history so I am aware of many outdated slang terms, "heater" being almost a code word for a weapon larger than a pistol such as a shotgun or tommygun has always been one of my favorites. Tommygun of course being slang for the Thompson Mark 1, which is named for the designer, they were actually manufactured by Colt.

You know you might have a very good point there, it does come across as a meaningful name. Also Thomas is a very common Italian name as all biblical names are since many italians are Catholic, and Angelo is a very old italian last name, which does indeed mean "angel". Tommy ends up being sort of the good guy of the story, so you have that too.

I bet they did their home work to make sure the language is accurate. Some of the same terms are also in the original.

That's how they spoke in those days, and I'm GLAD they made it as accurate as they could.
If you're complaining about it because you're the small minority then that's too bad don't judge the game for it.
