Is the original worth playing?
I feel like I'm missing something if I skip the 2002 version. I figure everyone here has played both, so thought I'd ask if there's actually any point in playing the original or should I just play the remaster? Based on the demo I played like twenty years ago it seems to have pretty horrible shooting mechanics and driving, but that was just a demo.

It is definitely worth playing. Story is pretty much the same but the twist and how the missions goes are bit different. Shooting isn't that horrible and driving is pretty much like you would drive in 1930's.

If you want to skip it, then that's okay too, but after you play this game (and if you like it) then give it at least a chance.

Man! For sure it is! It's quite aged game, but still awesome.

back then played all the way through in just a handful sessions, and then continued to play open world for like a months or so

for the actual sale price this should be an absolute no-brainer :steamhappy:

I played Mafia 2 first, enjoyed it but thought it was a bit short; but I got it on a pretty decent sale so I wasn't too upset.

Got very hyped for Mafia 3, was so excited because i loved the 60s setting which is pretty unique for games like this, was heart broken when it ended up not really having much of a story and every mission was just some generic racket upset + kill lieutenant thing on repeat.

I'm playing through Mafia 1 just now. I'll warn you, there's a race car level that's like right after the tutorial and if you insist on getting all the achievements and playing through on max difficulty you're gonna be in for a rough time because it's a damn nightmare where the computer cheats. It took me 5 hours and made me refund once before. I just got past it tonight and after a few hours i'm having fun still. Haven't beaten it but for the price it's a decent game and the graphics are gorgeous.

That's part of the reason I ask. I heard the original was annoyingly difficult, especially the race sequence.

Unlike in DE, original mafia race can be skip completely and have build difficulty setting making it much easier. (after update it got) Only other difference is that race is 5 laps instead of 3, opponents won't have scripted crash apart from first one and you can die if your car rolls over.

Never really try that race in hardest setting but with easiest i manage to pass 3-5 other racers by a lap, while here when i play on classic it sure was a challenge.
