The new update also brought a false positive from Avast
Avast decided to delete a bunch of random files after applying the patch.

Be aware.

Some people here seems to be on a crusade against av software, my norton isnt saying that there is a virus, it just blocked a suspicious action.
The last time my av did this was at the buggy horizon zero dawn, the devs there used a analyze tool which was scanning a bit too much and the av just blocked this (which was his job).
Maybe something similar is happen at this game, i also dont understand why this game always tries to connect me to the hangar13 servers at the start, i just want play solo.

As someone who has been using computers a lot longer than you more than likely, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret: all antivirus software is both bloatware and spyware, tracking everything you do so the companies can sell your surfing habits to any other company willing to pay for it. Use common sense, you won't have any problems with your system. Or continue to enjoy your bloatware, whatever. It's not my problem.

BitDefender detected all my games unless I added the Steam.exe and Commons folder to the exclusions list, after that never had an AV problem again. Maybe try that if its an option?

Lots of people dont actually configure their AV, which leads it to blocking games, but it doesst know what a game is. Some games like civ 4 and 5 actually get acess to your pc files for exporting, others dont and are import only. So they block them all and let the user decide what is an exception, but if you dont do that it makes it look bad when in fact that is what a good program is supposed to do. But it cant read your mind so you have to give it instructions.

Like a games mode that disables features that wouldnt be used while gamming to use less ram.

or maybe some of us use PC for year and have experiance, or even fix computers.

I go around and install and do all sort of support like for PCs, phones, internet to people. I do install them AV but only because i see they lack knowledge and could potentially install or download virus themself. I know they don't play games and wont be bothered by bit slower computer.
But for people who have some knowledge, like i expect here people have i recommend not to use 3rd party AV. It is simply not needed, it slows down PCs and often make conflict with updated games or games in general.

If you use defrag on avast disable this, not needed for SSD

What about if person have knowledge enough for not to download virus or something else but still wants AV, will you install it or refuse?

Like I say i tell them that it is not needed. Just to not download suspecius things or click on every link they get in spam mail.

If they still want to install AV, who am i to judge lol.

EDIT: But i did delete AV to few people who called me and said they can't play game, use app, watch movies etc. So i removed AV, told them what happenes with AV and conflict their app or game, they are ok with it and that it

I use AVG but I am considering uninstalling because it keeps advertising to me that "I have problems with PC" like broken registry ♥♥♥♥♥ and that I have "4 spying cookies".

Nah fam, you are sadly mistaken. Linux users in this example are the Michelin 5 star chefs, whereas strictly Windows users with no knowledge on CLI are the local Mcdonalds.

anyways on the note of AV's....

The big problem I see with Anti virus software - both free and paid, is that it gives the user a false sense of security.

I mean, if you feel safer with one - then all the power to you. Just know that there is going to be very few, if anything that a free program like Avast is going to catch that Windows Defender won't. This was not always the case, but has been for some time now.

AV software both paid and free used to have the massive disadvantage of using a ton of extra resources in the background because of how badly they were developed. Thankfully there has been a focus on giving them a much smaller footprint - especially in the premium free software. Norton and the like are still complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

The other issue is that a lot of the free software behave a lot like spyware themselves and collect telemetry data from you. If you're cool with that too, then again, all the power to you.

Heres the thing though. If you don't open any files from an unknown source, don't forward any ports at your router, and keep a firewall enabled on your devices on your internal LAN, and generally know what you're doing - you will not get a virus.

But, let me be perfectly clear on this, because I don't think people realize it. The main reason why you don't get hacked isn't because you have a great Anti-Virus... It is because you don't stick your neck out and therefor never get targeted specifically from a talented hacker. In the event that you become known to someone who is first and foremost dedicated, and secondly, talented - there really is not a whole lot you can do. Unless you are also knowledgeable on the subject of security and know how to pen test and close gaps.

I'm just going to re-quote this here because it seems there was like 3 pages of comments after I said this literally saying the same thing but in different sentence structure.. lol

Also, I find it hilarious how people think because they've used a PC for a long time it makes them experts on everything computers... There's this little thing called the Dunning-Kreuger effect, I implore some of you to look it up.

But if you're too lazy, it essentially states that the less you know about something, the more confidence you have that you know a lot about it, because you don't even begin to know what you don't know. The more you learn about that subject, the more you realize just how deep that rabbit hole goes, and you realize how little you know.... Then finally, when you actually become competent with something, you finally start to come out of the hole.... As someone with a electric engineering and computer science background, I can tell you without reserve that a lot of yall either knowingly or unknowingly are talkin' out your arses :P
