Can you skip the Car Racing Mission?

Now that it is on steam sale, I am considering picking this up.

The one hesitancy was the infamous Car Racing mission that most people say is punishingly stupid and annoying. Ideally, I want to "roleplay" my guy and if I have to do this, I'd just fail intentionally and move on.

Please no advice like "Just git gud" at the game.

I am just asking if its skippable. This is a buy or not buy decision for me.

Took me more attemts than I care to admit^^ (classic). The first corner is imo the hardest imo, then it seemed to be purely up to rng if you get a good start or not. Didnt find the handling of the car that difficult which is what I remember was most frustrating from mafia1

It's 3 laps.
3 laps is 2.9 laps too many. If I wanna play a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ race-game I'll play Forza or something. I wanna play Mafia, not need4speed.

It's not supposed to be skippable, but you can skip it by downloading an autosave file from just after the race such as this one: https://www.nexusmods.com/mafiadefinitiveedition/mods/29/

You only need save0.sav from the \aslot\ folder. Paste that file into your own save folder:
\Documents\My Games\Mafia Definitive Edition\Data\"a long number"\gamesaves\default\aslot\

You have to create a free account on that site.

Ignore the instructions in that post, I didn't know how exactly Mafia DE saves work at that time.

Then you're looking at the wrong game. Mafia is not a sand box game. This is not GTA.
Mafia is a linear story driven game. The open world exist just for driving to missions and chases. The game moves from story mission to story mission in linear fashion. You're never free to wonder around and explore like GTA.

There is a sandbox mode outside the story in which you can do stuff.. but it is just a sandbox mode with no story progression.

I played the race on easy, and it was pretty darn easy. Slow down when you hit a sharp turn, and come out of your turn with heavy acceleration. I've played races far harder than this in other games... but it seems dependent on difficulty mode, from what people are saying. I played on mouse and keyboard too, btw. You can do this!

By the way, I never play racing games either, but I don't mind the occasional racing mission in a game like this. The GTA games of the early 00's forced me to race a lot, so I learned a trick or too. I'm not terrible at racing games... I just don't usually care for them. :P

Lowed difficulty, slowed down on turns, tried both controller and KB/M.... nothing works. You have to be lucky. Guess I'm done with this game, glad I got it dirt cheap since the devs obviously don't want me to beat it.

You don't need luck to beat it, just don't crash on others, skip couple turn by driving over grass, (don't drive too fast however so you don't fly) and accelerate on straight lines.

Took me 40 minutes but only because I was being a profectionist. Its really easy if you understand how to drive cars of this era. If any of you have ever played GPL or messed around with the Lotus 49 on iRacing on some other sim you have to drive it like that. These cars are fast and behave fairly decently as there would have. Use the brakes to get the car pointed into the turn then use the throttle to help steer the car through the turns. Turn 1 is the hardest corner on the track. Here you have to use the brakes more then any other turn on the track. Start braking on the out side of the straight(side with the buildings) When you see the tarmac start to have black marks start braking as gently and firmly as possible once your down to about 30-40 mph start to turn and feather the throttle to help you turn. Its fairly easy. Watch the guys your racing beside the three scripted retirements its very easy to pass and win if you watch the guys in front of you and react to them.

I beat it at the second tentative on "classic" mode. If you have a good controller, keep in mind that cars are 90 years old and that it is not an arcade game like Outrun. Slow down massively before turns, stay close to the inner kerbs and accelerate on straights.

What difficulty you play it?

When the original game came out years ago I could never pass the race mission and ended up giving up. Just played the race tonight and blew everyone away using WASD. They must have tweaked the definitive edition to be much easier for the race (playing on medium). Anyway, I have finally moved forward successfully.

Update: did not realize I was not playing the original difficulty of the game... uhhh.
