Can you skip the Car Racing Mission?
Now that it is on steam sale, I am considering picking this up.

The one hesitancy was the infamous Car Racing mission that most people say is punishingly stupid and annoying. Ideally, I want to "roleplay" my guy and if I have to do this, I'd just fail intentionally and move on.

Please no advice like "Just git gud" at the game.

I am just asking if its skippable. This is a buy or not buy decision for me.

It's not skippable, the game won't progress if you fail.

Can't skip. Only thing you can do is lower the difficulty if its feels too hard.

It's not supposed to be skippable, but you can skip it by downloading an autosave file from just after the race such as this one: https://www.nexusmods.com/mafiadefinitiveedition/mods/29/

You only need save0.sav from the \aslot\ folder. Paste that file into your own save folder:
\Documents\My Games\Mafia Definitive Edition\Data\"a long number"\gamesaves\default\aslot\

Playing on classic and I almost gave up on this game. I come home to have fun and this mission was frustrating as hell. I finally beat it after couple days of trying since the rest of the game is ok. Melee a bit iffy. When u are racing just know there are 3 scripted car crashes so as long u are in top 3 or 4 after first lap ur good or just restart.

Took me 40 minutes but only because I was being a profectionist. Its really easy if you understand how to drive cars of this era. If any of you have ever played GPL or messed around with the Lotus 49 on iRacing on some other sim you have to drive it like that. These cars are fast and behave fairly decently as there would have. Use the brakes to get the car pointed into the turn then use the throttle to help steer the car through the turns. Turn 1 is the hardest corner on the track. Here you have to use the brakes more then any other turn on the track. Start braking on the out side of the straight(side with the buildings) When you see the tarmac start to have black marks start braking as gently and firmly as possible once your down to about 30-40 mph start to turn and feather the throttle to help you turn. Its fairly easy. Watch the guys your racing beside the three scripted retirements its very easy to pass and win if you watch the guys in front of you and react to them.

Just race dirty. I know its kinda anti RPG but the race expects you to race dirty. Use other cars to bounce off in corners. Smash them out the race.

By the end half are crashed and on fire. As the game wants you to play.

Took me 3 attempts to realise its not a race after seeing cars in smoke. After driving dirty, with the commentator saying how violent I was, I hit first.
Might not be obvious to all.

Thank you so much, but then does this mean that everything in the game is pretty generic and so money etc is not relevant?

I want more of a sandbox experience.

Wrong game.
dkfqwmdu Nov 26, 2020 @ 4:43pm
There is no money system in the game, and not much of a sandbox experience either.

The story is completely linear, 20 chapters in a predetermined order. Autosaves only contain data specific to the chapter, e.g. the weapons and ammo you were carrying at that time (none in Fair Play since it is a pure driving mission) or your health (which is restored after some cutscenes, including the race-ending one).

Collectibles, cars you've added to your garage, mission progress in Free Ride and so forth are saved elsewhere and neither part of the autosaves nor affected by them.

The game waits for you so dont worry about being first in the first two laps, learn the track and how to go through corners and when and where to bank in your first two laps and then just run a semi-clean lap and you will win. Its really not difficult at all.

Failed it like three times, then i remembered the ram button (A) on an Xbox controller. You can just send it into the corners and if you start running wide use (A) and turn in. E A S Y

First halfway into lap 1

Or just drive and make lines straight, don't ram and destroy.
