Voice Acting Awful!

I am annoyed by changing Tommy but can deal with that... but everyone sounds so fake!

HORRIBLE accents... I cannot stand Paulie especially, sounds like he's pinching his nose too. I have seen about every mob movie ever made and played all Mafia games in the franchise and never heard such terrible voice acting.

The first car chase scene there are super over the top fake sound effects when cars crash (the first car that goes off the road, you hear that 20 year old "ahhh!" sound effect that has been used 1,000,000 times? And what the hell is with the quicktime event getaway driving?! I try to take a hard turn to lose these guys and the QT event takes over and I do some completely unrealistic maneuver and don't even get to maintain control of the vehicle?

I also agree with a lot of the comments that the graphics look poor and very outdated... I have all settings as high as they'll go and am completely underwhelmed.

I have only played one hour and am going to give it as much of a chance as I am able with the two hour refund timer... but so far, I really cannot stand the voice acting across the board!

I agree on the voice acting. Very stereo typical and forced sounding. Paulie (and even Tommy) are very irritating to listen to. The graphics though? Don't agree there. They look pretty damn good with some of the best lighting I've seen in a game so far. The reflections are incredible.

Graphics I can live with, I'm playing Mafia games for the story and other than the supremely annoying voices, especially Paulie, I really want to give it a fair shot... I'll play up to the two hour mark and see how I feel but based on what I've seen so far I will likely refund.

I've played through the original Mafia at least 3-4 times, Mafia 2 at least 3-4 times, I played through Mafia 2 Definitive when that was released and enjoyed it again. Mafia 3 started out solid and was completely ruined by the boring rinse and repeat game play unfortunately.

With that in mind my expectations are high for a remake of such a beloved franchise.

I feel like the only one who unironically likes the new Paulie voice and that this remake has infinite amounts of time better voice acting than the original.

Same, I didn't like his voice when they first showed off A Trip to the Country but have since then liked it, especially with the characterization given to him in the remake. Sam in comparison is devoid of any personality outside of being a lady killer, Paulie is someone I like participating in missions with.

Tommy's new redesign and voice didn't really get to me as much as others, so I loved him from the start. Sam to me feels like an actual friend to Tom here (until the betrayal ofc) and not just a business associate like the original and the new voice beats the old one by a country mile imo. Paulie was simply great, he actually had a personality of his own here.

I think the game would have been much better with the original voice actors (rip salieri's VA) or at least someone close. It would have made the new character models more bearable. Especially Paulie.

Agreed. Wish they gave the original lot another shot. They did with Czech cast. Which is annoying.

So thanks for the feedback, glad I'm not alone but I am also totally happy to hear that others are happy if not more so with the remake characters.

I really wanted this to succeed. I remember like yesterday buying the original Mafia on CD as a new release... the game at the time was an 11 out of 10 and the voice actors, story and the music equally were all perfect in my opinion. Naturally with that said, I am biased and pretty particular about this type of thing in all games / movies.

Would you guys give me a quick stick with it or refund while I can considering what I've said thus far?

To be clear I am not saying is this game worth buying, clearly it is and many people are digging it... but if you guys have played through the game and hear what I'm saying, what would you do?

It's Saturday evening my time and I'm kinda thinking to just roll the dice and keep playing...

I just found them different, but obviously the voice actors had a lot more to work with this time around so I personally found that the voice acting was a major improvement.

I've finished it and I thought it was fine.

Paulie was a real wiseguy and the comic relief without being the butt of all the jokes, he's feels a little to me like Joe Pesci in Goodfellas...

Your memory betrays you. The voice acting is far better than the original. You may like the original voices better (I do too because of nostalgia) but the performances are much better in this one across every character.
