Mafia: Definitive Edition

Mafia: Definitive Edition

İstatistiklere Bak:
I'm unsure whether to purchase. Please advise.
I just want to say that I love Mafia II. Despite the "open world" not being fully fleshed out, the universe still feels pleasant and alive enough for me to enjoy walking about between missions, and the characters and conflict that very slowly unraveled throughout my playthrough left me feeling things for these polygons that I objectively know don't have any real emotions. (That's a joke, in case you couldn't tell.)

But Mafia III, while the heart was still in the cutscenes, it was seemingly absent from the repetitive gameplay.

Now when the Definitive Editions came out for the Mafia Trilogy, I naturally got the upgrade for II and III for free, but not for Mafia 1, because when I bought Mafia 1 a couple years back, I had to scour ebay for a physical copy, as Mafia: The City of Lost Haven wasn't on Steam at that point. And I really want to love Mafia 1, even playing it on an old Windows 2000 machine for authenticity... but it unfortunately feels a little too dated for me to really stick with it.

And while the "remastered" editions of Mafia II and III are a nice touch, it's no doubt that Mafia 1 is the one to be excited about... I just don't feel justified paying $40.00 for it, especially considering that's what I paid for my physical copy from Ebay (remember, it wasn't on Staem until recently, so it was sought after back then.) Is it worth biting the bullet if there's a chance I'm never going to play it? And please, don't advise me to abuse the Steam refund system, especially for a game that needs more than 2 hours of playtime to determine if I'm going to be into it. Mafia 1 starts off very slow.

I pre-ordered, but only on the assumption that this will be roughly Mafia 1 remade with the tools used for Mafia 3.* I'm assuming it will be the same structure and general missions with better (less flat) voice acting and the visuals trickling out already look great. Mafia was a standout game for its time.

I'm hoping this is more RE:2 quality in terms of a do-over, and less FFVII.
The "additional content" had better be actual city-wide activities or new missions and not in-game purchases and multiplayer nonsense. (Although 1930s gangland multiplayer could be fantastic, I highly doubt it would be untainted by microtransactions or pay for convenience mechanics...

* That said, now I'm having doubts about my excitement because trying to finish up the third part, I'm encountering some pretty blatant bugs and poor programming. Basic things in a game like this (traffic, pedestrians, spawning, and maps) should work correctly from the start, not randomly glitch out and constantly ruin any immersion.
I will try to keep an open mind about this game. I want to believe that Hangar 13 learned from their mistakes and they will stay true to what made the first mafia game of the franchise great. However, I will wait for the reviews to popup before I decide to get it or not.

If they do a good job I will definitely buy it to try to support them. Seeing how single-player game experiences are becoming more rare everyday buying this game is a great way to show the game industry that there is still a market for story-driven single-player games.
All about Mafia 3 being "bad" it is because 2K rushed Hangar 13 to finish the game, they only had a little over 2 years of development time on Mafia 3, after having to reboot it internally in 2014 after 2K Czech went under. So with that I think what we got was fairly "okay", it was not as Mafia 2 levels, sure. But for 2 years work, sure. Plus, they're not lazy. They are very hard working, but due to 2K forcing Mafia 3 out the door early, they had to do some quality drawbacks. They now have MANY studios across the globe and not just the one like on Mafia 3. So we have a bigger team and more talent this time around. Not to mention, they are REMAKING a game, not making a new one, so they have a safe blueprint foundation to build off, so long as it's faithful to the original. They tried their best even with the limits imposed.
All you can do is wait for the gameplay. The screenshots look very encouraging but Mafia 3 was a bit of a travesty for variety of reasons. It could go either way but nobody can really make a judgement at this stage.
honestly im just gonna wait for the gameplay footage, if it looks ♥♥♥♥♥♥ like mafia 3 and if it also restricts me to just doing the missions like mafia 3 (and im unable to rob stores, kill civilians, anything i want to in free roam, etc) then im not getting it

Well I hope it has none of that. Have you played Mafia 1 at all?
Mafia is a linear game. You go from mission to mission. It's not GTA.. It's not sandbox. You don't go out to rob stores and do as you please and should ABSOLUTELY stay that way. Mafia is a story driven game and that's that.

Mafia has a free roam mode, but it's separate from the story campaign. You access through the main menu so you can run around with no story if that is what you want.
They sure added stuff to do between missions.
There will ba collectables and stores. Other than that, I don't know yet. I hope they will show many things in the gameplay footage.
The golden rule is NEVER pre order. It takes away the incentive for the game to be good on launch.

Mafia 1 remastered has microtransactions, under the age rating it states 'in game purchases'.
wish they would leave this S*** out of AAA titles.
microtransactions have no place in premium purchases.
ONLY in f2p and mobile garbage.

Aw, nuts. I totally agree about microtransactions- sorry, "in-game purchases" as they re-branded it (to sound less shady.)
It might just be cosmetics or skins. Maybe even just the pre-order pack as mini-DLC.
If it's game components, like any other unique vehicles or weapons though... :lunar2019deadpanpig:

EDIT: The preview build embargo is supposed to lift today at 4pm. YouTubers will fill in many details later today, I hope.

I am hoping it's on the less harmful end of the 'in-game purchase' margin.
as in the progression (if there is any) is tied around them.
not sure how much they've changed, hopefully minor.
lmao
that pig emote cracked me up :')
the piggy looked so surprised :)

-thanks for the information regarding the embargo, i do hope it's good news.
i usually watch ACG for un-biased reviews/previews.

Microtransactions might be about suits & cars etc. You don't have to buy them. I already ordered the game and got golden arabic chicago suit and car :papyrus:

I wouldn't call me not being able to deal with the dated controls, unforgiving health system, strict driving time limit, lack of proper map navigation, and relentless AI, me being a wuss, especially as I stated, I have the CD version installed on Windows 2000 for authenticity/minimal bugs. It's just a simple fact that, similar to Shenmue, age did not do this game kindly for people who never grew up with it. I just can't get into it when I keep dying over and over due to not knowing where to drive fast enough, or because I keep getting capped by enemies I don't even see.
Yeah I'm on the fence myself now because I can't find a straight answer if this game at least as a first person driving viewpoint (cockpit view.) But so far... seems nobody knows and all the cringey youtubers who got the 2 hour demo all never tried to cycle through the view options in their videos of playing it.
