Game crashes on main menu

Every single time without fail, the game is crashing and telling me the game unexpectedly stopped working. I've tried reinstalling it, but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Same. Worst part is that I've been playing it for the past few days just fine. Updated Windows last night though, so maybe that.

Windows 7 compatibility mode got me past the main menu, so try that. :)

I have the same thing turn off the Internet and it won't crash

I have the same problem. Just installed the game and few seconds in the main menu and its gone... do you know what to do to make it work?

You can just disconnect from the internet, load your savegame and then you can normally reconnect to the internet. Just works for me.

Add firewall exception to launcher exe and game exe.
I add input and output rules.
Then go to game options and ENABLE "disable launcher"

In 5yr old instructions, how to do the firewall part?
Cuz i lose audio after reconnection to internet per the other solution

Does the game still save for you when you do this?

I have disconnected my 2k profile from the game and now it runs normally (with proper saving and everything). If you want to disconnect the profile, you have to go to the 2k website and find "connections", there you just disconnect Steam. I did not log back into the 2k account when the main menu shows and the game works completely fine.

Hi, I had the same issue but have found a work around that might help others. If you have linked your 2k account, unlink your steam account on the 2k website. Then open the game when you get the prompt to link account, re-sign in and it should work. (Well it did for me) Hope this helps someone.

@Juno: Yes this worked 1 time but if you try next time it wont work again. WTF

Disconnecting from 2K account also didn t helped. Game still crashing to desktop at Start Menu.

Just like stated I played it in offline mode and it got me past the main menu crash then after I started the game went back to online mode..

it has something to do with the f.. 2k link account, since i link it with 2k, the games keeps
crashing on the menu, turning your internet off problably prevents your 2k account to log on and crash the game

I was able to unlink the 2k account in-game before it crashed, you have to do it quickly
