Anyway the procedure is:
1) Find Mafia II original version's saves. They are on Win10 in the C:/Users/yournamee/AppData/Local/2K Games/Mafia II/Saves/some long number
2) Find Mafia II Definitive Edition saves and back them up to your folder anywhere. They are located for me in the Documents/My Games/Mafia II Definitive.../Saves/some long number
3) Replace all the content of the folder with the long number with the files from the original version.
I don't think you need to replace any other files in the Saves folder or the Data folder.
And beware - it transfers your finished missions and collectibles (Playboys and Wanted posters), but does not transfer correctly saves from any ongoing mission, so the link Continue story might crash the game. You just have to open any Chapter again and then when it is saved Continue should work.
Also this is a reason why copying the last.dat file in the Saves directory is not necessary, because it will not work.
Anyway back-up is always the best thing to do:-).
And it does not transfer your achievements on Steam of course. So you will have Chapter 2 for example finished, you can visit Chapter 3, but the achievement for finishing Chapter 2 won't be completed until you really finish it again in this version of the game.
