Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Says there are over 40 bosses. How many bosses did Hallow Knight have?
Base game Hollow Knight, not with all the DLC—I'm sure Silksong will get DLC updates too but I'd like to know base game numbers.

The launch version of Hollow Knight had 35 bosses, with the DLCs adding an additional 12:

- 2 bosses in Hidden Dreams
- 2 bosses in the Grimm Troupe
- 1 boss in the Lifeblood update
- 7 bosses in Godmaster

The trailer also specifies "over" 40 legendary bosses, meaning that the actual number could be 41, 42, 43, or 44. (I imagine that if it were 45+, the wording in the trailer would've been tweaked to reflect that.) It's definitely more than base Hollow Knight, and not that far off from the final count of the Voidheart Edition of the game.

I think 36?
Definitely 30ish but not exactly sure.
When they say "over" 40...that could mean 41 or 49. Either way, seems the game is larger than Hollow Knight. Now, that is to be expected after all the time Silksong spent in development but it's a good sign lol
There were 35 base game bosses, and 12 DLC bosses in Hollow Knight. So 41-49 base game bosses is definitely a nice boost, considering how we'll likely see DLC bosses down the road.

Thanks for the details. I wonder how many bosses Silksong will ultimately end up with...I'm sure it'll end up in the 50's...maybe even the 60's. :O
Now that I think about it, there's a fair amount of the bosses in HK I did not give a ♥♥♥♥ about. I think like 10 of them I didn't particularly like or care. Of which that does make me worry will also be a problem in Silksong. I get it's like Dark Souls where's there's a lot of bosses, but that was kind of a problem in those games as well, where because there's so much bosses, there's bound to be a handful of bosses that kind of suck or are not interesting.
In contrast something like Nine Sols has less bosses (like around 20) but generally the bosses were better and there were less stinkers.

Considering that Silksong has been stated to have a greater focus on combat compared to Hollow Knight, and the fact that the game is clearly looking to be an evolution that expands and improves upon its predecessor, there's a good chance that the quality of boss fights in Silksong will be higher. They are giving Hornet a more sophisticated kit with the crest and tool system, and normal enemies have been shown to have specific traits or mechanics that counter certain strategies, so I'm sure the bosses will be more complex to fight as well.

I think what you're forgetting is the fact that the Hollow Knight release trailer proudly displayed the text on screen "Challenge over 30 EPIC bosses!", Silksong having 45 bosses doesn't seem too far fetched given HK sporting about 47 bosses. Ari also claimed in the most recent interview with Jason Schreier that the game was "another giant thing to rival the scale of Hollow Knight or probably exceed it", and that "obviously the world ended up being just as big or bigger".
What "boss" exactly means? Is it the enemy when there is battle in room which is closing temporarily? Or is it the enemy which name is appearing on the screen during battle? Because these two cases are not always the same.
I would hazard a guess after they released Godhome what Team Cherry considers is a boss is pretty well defined in game.
