Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hollow Knight: Silksong

I hope this game will be sad
The sad atmosphere of Hollow Knight is what drew me in

Perhaps story-wise, but I think the atmosphere of Silksong is going to be different to Hollow Knight. Most of what we've seen from Pharloom up to this point has been fairly bright and lively, with places like Greymoor being more of an exception to the rule. And with all the various NPCs it doesn't give off that "lonely journey" vibe.

This OST gives me hope it will be
I agree with the sentiment tho, the personality of Hollow Knight as a grim soulslike was an amazing backdrop and allowed the characters to be more interesting and unique.

While I do understand the reasons why people would want Silksong to be tonally similar to HK, I, for one, am hoping for a slightly less grimdark "everyone's going insane, the king is dead!" kind of vibe. After all, variety is the spice of life (that is to say, the sequel could realistically have great tonal variance without any dissonance). Not like the first game was devoid of humour anyway. Who knows, there might be some epic wartime adventure waiting for us in Hollow Knight 3: the Revenge of the Fungi — Mushroom Empire Strikes Back!

Just my 0.02 $.

It will probably have it's fair share of sad moments (altho looks to be less atmospherically dark than HK, and possibly less thematically dark as well.)
What's really sad tho, is that it's been 6 months since Team Cherry has given us an update. :steamsad:
I know they're on a crunch, it'd just be nice to hear from them twice a year. Hope they're okay.

While Silksong’s plot may end up being a great, personal tragedy for Hornet, and there certainly are hints to dark undertones in the trailer, it seems like both the setting and basic premise of this game are going to be lighter than Hollow Knight’s.

Unlike Hallownest, the kingdom of Pharloom may be ailing, but is not dead yet: this land is not only a more vibrant landscape than Hornet’s homeland, but within it still dwells a seemingly functioning society, full of bugs for Hornet to help.

And help them she will, if this is any indication: “[...]unearth ancient mysteries and search for lost treasures to fulfil the wishes of the downtrodden and restore the kingdom’s hope. ”(This sentence is also a reference to the new quest system).

I don’t know about you, but I think becoming a folk hero is a much more optimistic premise than vanquishing the phantoms and unquiet dead of a failed kingdom, potentially fulfilling your fate as a living sacrifice.

Of course, until Silksong comes out this is all pure speculation, but it doesn’t seem like Team Cherry is aiming to replicate Hollow Knight’s atmosphere, nor should they in my opinion.

This means things will be less lonely, not less dark or gloomy or whatever.

Consider, as an example, Majora's Mask.
You have a town full of characters, and you help the majority of them.
Almost everyone is suffering, and everyone is about to die if they aren't dead already.

Not exactly what I'd call "lighter" than other Zelda games even with more focus on NPCs than usual.

I don't mind sad, but I hope it's not empty. I hope there are more NPC's that fill the world.

Anyone thinking the game will be dark and theres no other exceptions dont really know what they're talking about.

The themes of Hollow Knight are very different from Silksong.

Hollow Knight is about descent, where as Silksong is about ascent.
Hollow Knight is about slow methodical play where as Silksong is a lot faster paced.

I could very easily see Silksong being tonally different as well. It may have sad or dark parts but it makes sense that it would be a happier game.

All of this, honestly.

Also, Pharloom is not a dead kingdom(unlike Hallownest), and this means Hornet may have an actual chance to save it and its people.

That alone would make it a more optimistic game in my eyes.

Firstly, because of the existing stories, Hornet won't have a miserable ending. We tend to use male characters to create loneliness and introspection, and female roles to shape happiness and harvest. (machine translation:steamhappy:)
