Team Cherry doesn't deserve the respect of this community, but neither do we deserve a good game...
After months of silence, with such an active community, Team Cherry don't deserve a successful release not the respect of their community. I know that people will still choose to forget how they've been ignored for more that a year and buy the game anyway, but this is just another example of why modern-day gaming is no more than a ♥♥♥♥ cash grab. There is no consideration for the community or the fans.

On the other hand, this community also doesn't deserve a better gaming circle. Feels completely bipolar to bash a developer to eternity only to forget it all once a game is released. You don't deserve to get more respect, because you choose to be blind to how these developers use you and your addiction in new releases.

only those who enjoy being teased and deluded are left to support them.
just think that after 4 years of DELAY they allowed themselves to say "happy Valentine's Day" a few days ago
after having disappeared for 4 years, they return without a period of release of the game and even allow themselves to write sentences like a box of chocolates. 🤡🤡🤡🤡
(I've seen poor developers accused of death threats for much less)
in the meantime they pretend to be the superstars first in 2019 from Nintendo Indie World and then from Microsoft the other indie teams work; moon studios will soon be coming out with the second game in 5 years, studio mdhr has developed cuphead + the dlc... and there could be many more examples of indie excellence.
they have proven to be liars and announce false dates, active only in selling puppets and t-shirts.
remove it from the wish list and don't buy it, there's no point arguing with fanboys blind to the evidence, who continue to support a team that in 5 years has only produced a 30 sec trailer.

It hasn't been four years of delay, they 'delayed' the game precisely once, to announce that they weren't making the June 2023 release window, something which Team Cherry themselves never confirmed in the first place. They haven't proved themselves liars, because they just haven't said much, and I'd wager that the reason for that is because they're afraid of being liars. They're afraid of making an announcement and then having to go back on it later. You mention how Moon Studios will be releasing their second game in five years (and do you mean third game? Their second game already came out a while ago), but you forget that Moon Studios has grown a lot in size over those five years, whereas Team Cherry is still just three people. Of course Moon Studios would be able to push out another game, when they have a team magnitudes larger than Team Cherry. You say that us 'fanboys' are blind to the evidence, but you haven't provided any evidence, all you've done is complain and claim that in five years all they've produced is a thirty second trailer, but that's wrong anyway; they've produced two thirty second trailers, a demo, and a couple riddles, as well as accounts from various people working with Team Cherry, that they ARE working on the game. Still not much, I admit, but a good deal more than nothing.

Now, I'm not exactly pleased with how Team Cherry has gone about communicating with their fans, but I can understand why they would. They're three people, a single disruptance in one of their lives could seriously affect development, so they probably don't want to say much of anything for fear of having to go back on it, so instead they elect to say as little as possible. And, to be honest, I'd rather they say next to nothing, then say a whole bunch, and then have to go 'Sorry guys, we're scraping that really cool thing everybody wanted to see, and we're going to have to delay the game... again.'

First of all I compliment you on the tone of the discussion, so I will explain myself better and point out where you think you are right/know but that is not the case.
on steam post video announcement 2019 the release date is q1 2020, and also nintendo from official banners reported by this site
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/01/nintendo_reminds_us_of_20_exciting_games_coming_to_switch_in_2020_with_new_infographic
is announced for release 2020.
what were you saying about not wanting to give false dates? if I don't seem credible to you, just do a quick search and you will see that it has been announced to be ready early 2020.
the people who you think are good and kind, with a 2 minute trailer and a short demo they got a lot of publicity from nintendo for FREE by declaring false dates.
then at the beginning of 2021 they chose to go and be superstars on EDGE megazine, taking who knows how much money and making false declarations there too (according to them, the game was healthy and almost ready).
in the meantime they disappear everywhere EXCEPT THE SITE where they sell puppets and t-shirts, when there is money to be taken they are always alive and updated.
then? 2023, another free advertisement from Microsoft where they further lie to them too about a game ready within a year.
the first game sold 3 million copies in 2019, I believe that to date they have easily reached 4 million copies, for a game that cost them zero, as it was financed on Kickstarter.
all that money and there being 3 of us left, for you it's an excuse, for me it's criminal!
the other studios sell 1 million copies, paying their employees with that money, not through Kickstarter, and expand to 10-20 developers.
team cherry, after becoming rich what did they do with all of our money??
they have enough money to never work a day in their life, and excluding a 1 minute trailer every 4 years, they seem to be doing just that

team cherry, after becoming rich what did they do with all of our money??
they have enough money to never work a day in their life, and excluding a 1 minute trailer every 4 years, they seem to be doing just that

Firstly, I'm not sure to what you're referring when you mention the 'steam post video announcement' googling it gave me nothing except the Silksong trailer, which doesn't give a release window or even a 'coming soon' so maybe you could link it? As for a planned 2020 release, as far as I can tell it was only ever Nintendo that stated this, and not Team Cherry themselves. I do believe that there was also some sort of leak, that stated that Silksong was going to release in June 2020, but this seems like 2020 was their goal, and not that they just straight up lied to Steam and Nintendo. And of course, TC are kinda bad at reaching their goals, Hollow Knight was meant to release in 2015, and that didn't happen, and in 2020 the pandemic hit, which according to TC caused the Silksong to balloon in size. So it's possible that they were nearing a finished game until the
pandemic.
Regarding Edge Magazine, them saying 'healthy and almost ready' could have been a miscalculation on their part. To address your point about Microsoft, TC didn't tell Microsoft that the game would be ready by 2023, Microsoft asked TC if it would be ready within a year and TC said that that was their plan.
You say that Hollow Knight cost them zero because it was funded on kickstarter, but it absolutely did cost them. At that point, both William and Ari had quit there jobs, and were working full time on HK, that kickstarter money paid for their every expense. By the end of development William was going down to the butcher and buying bags of 'assorted meat ends' all the bits and pieces of meat that the butcher didn't use, because it was all they could really afford at that point. Moon Studios has sold about 4 million copies between both Ori games, and Cuphead has also sold 4 million copies, which yes, they have used to pay their employees, and you're saying that TC hasn't?
'all that money and there being 3 of us left, for you it's an excuse, for me it's criminal!' I've quoted you here because I'm not sure what you mean by this. I think '3 of us left' is a typo? Anyway, I'm not sure what you believe is Criminal about TC's actions. As for what TC has done with our money, I really don't see why it matters. We gave them our money, willingly and of our own accord, it is their money now, they are free to do with it as they please. If they are obligated to do anything for anyone, it is for the backers, who paid for certain stretch goals that weren't implemented in the final game. Such as the second playable character stretch goal, which was met, and not released with the game, and it is that stretch goal which is the reason why Silksong is being developed.
As for them being able to never work another day in their life, I suspect that is true, and they have admitted that Silksong's development runs on 'cherry time' which is essentially whenever they feel like it. And yet, they choose to continue to work, Silksong has been being developed, as can be seen when you compare the 2019 trailer to the Xbox gamepass trailer. They have also expressed a desire to work on other games after Silksong, for them developing games is a joy, a passion, a hobby which they have made their living.

In conclusion, Team Cherry themselves haven't announced any release date or window. It would seem that they have made plans, which they have talked about with the various companies they're working with, but that these plans have not been achieved. I don't see why TC would want to lie to any of these companies, because if I were a big company like Nintendo or Xbox, I would be annoyed enough with Team Cherry right now as it is, without them straight up lying to me; and if they did, I might be inclined to take some sort of acton. I think they announced Silksong too soon, and that they're rather bad at planning and reaching targets, which I feel is something they're going to really have to work on with any future games they develop. I suppose it's possible that they're just greedy liars, but why? It just doesn't make sense to me.

from what you write you know the situation very well so you seem dishonest to me by pretending not to know that it was announced for release in Q1 2020, and therefore it is "only" 4 years late
to say that microsoft, edge, nintendo EVERYONE LIES to the world about them, and instead they are good and pure, I'm sorry, but it's a ridiculous and surreal dialogue that I take myself out of.

the last thing that I obviously couldn't explain well:
all that money and there being 3 of us left, for you it's an excuse, for me it's criminal! change words:

they became rich, running away with the money and not investing the money in the team, increasing their number by just one person, when they would have the money to raise a team of at least 50 people (like real development teams do)
but by doing so they would have no more excuses and would have to work seriously.
but this is fine too.
since they develop as a hobby, as you say (for me a disgusting lack of respect) then I align myself with them:
my hobby is fishing, in 2030 when silksong comes out I will pay for it in fish

I will be as brief as I can, for I tire of writing these long replies. For having complimented me on my tone of discussion I find it surprising that you now call me a liar. I do not pretend, if you are able to provide a link to an official, isolated, and definitive announcement from Team Cherry or a company they work with, declaring that Silksong was going to be released in Q1 2020, I will concede, and happily. When I google ‘was silksong announced to release in 2020’ the first result I am provided with is a Reddit post (from four years ago, discussing how Silksong MIGHT be releasing before March 2020; no one in this discussion seems to be aware of any release window), the second is the Silksong Wikipedia page, and the third is an estimate of the release date. I was able to find a Reddit post where a screenshot shot was provided of the Silksong steam page, where the release date is set for June 17, 2020. However a mod commented on that saying ‘False alarm. It should be fixed now.’

I don’t go so far as to claim that TC are entirely good and pure, no one is, not you, not me, not the Pope, and not TC either; I understand this. What I don’t understand is why they would lie. They’re a small team, they are perfectly within their rights to take a long time with a game if they choose, so I don’t see how they’d benefit from lying.

TC, with all their money, would certainly be able to get a huge team, yet they decide not to. You claim that they do this because if they had a big team they would have no excuse for lounging around and taking a long time to develop a game. But, as I see it, if they had a big team they wouldn’t have to work so much. If they had a team of fifty, their workload, previously carried by just three people, would suddenly be spread out amongst fifty, meaning a lot less work for William, Ari, and Jack. Now, they would have to take on leadership responsibilities, and perhaps they want to avoid that and be lazy without the stress, but is it not also possible that they haven’t enlarged their team much because they enjoy doing the work? Even if it’s slow?

When Silksong releases, pay for it with fish if you like, I will pay for it with the ones and zeros that represent my money. In the meantime however, I am content to wait. I feel that Silksong is close, about five or six years closer than 2030. As for Team Cherry’s true nature you may be closer to the mark than I, but only time will tell that I think.

to say that microsoft, edge, nintendo EVERYONE LIES to the world about them, and instead they are good and pure, I'm sorry, but it's a ridiculous and surreal dialogue that I take myself out of.

the last thing that I obviously couldn't explain well:
all that money and there being 3 of us left, for you it's an excuse, for me it's criminal! change words:

they became rich, running away with the money and not investing the money in the team, increasing their number by just one person, when they would have the money to raise a team of at least 50 people (like real development teams do)
but by doing so they would have no more excuses and would have to work seriously.
but this is fine too.
since they develop as a hobby, as you say (for me a disgusting lack of respect) then I align myself with them:
my hobby is fishing, in 2030 when silksong comes out I will pay for it in fish

As for Team Cherry’s true nature you may be closer to the mark than I, but only time will tell that I think.

okay, remain confident in them, I side with those who, tired of years of lies and false dates, instead believe they ran away with the money.
-do you want to continue to believe that steam lied by saying q1 2020 is coming
-do you want to continue to believe that Nintendo lied on its official pages
-do you want to continue to believe that edge lied that he was almost ready 3 years ago
-do you want to continue to believe that microsoft lied in 2022.
ok, continue to believe that ALL the partners they dealt with lied, while in 10 seconds they could have opened Twitter and with 6 words they could have denied it, avoiding AT LEAST 30 STREAMING EVENTS where every time the fans always die inside a little more

“Ran away with the money”. Do you hear how insane you sound? They haven’t taken any money for Silk Song. If you paid for Hollow Knight merch or the first Hollow Knight game then LITERALLY got what you paid for. No one, including Team Cherry, can help that you’ve invested your own emotions and mental energy (evidently to the detriment of your sanity) into a product that’s not out yet.

I don’t believe any of these companies lied. I apologise if I gave you that impression in my responses. If I did allow me to clarify. I believe that TC started developing a game of larger scope and quality than the original with a team of roughly the same size, because they just aren’t interested in expanding the size of their team. I believe that they underestimated development time, and that the game was further enlarged after covid hit. I believe that Steam, Nintendo, and Xbox would really have liked it if this game had come out sooner, and have been trying to get TC to just finish their game already. I believe when the June 17 2020 date was found, not announced, but found, that it was either a placeholder, or TC’s original plan. I believe that when Nintendo included Silksong in a list of games coming out in 2020 that either Nintendo was pushing TC for this, or that this was TC’s planned release window at that time. I believe that Xbox asked TC if they’re game would be ready by June 2023 and that TC said that that was their plan, and that Xbox went along with that plan. I believe TC have been working hard on the game all this time, I don’t expect that they’ve been working 24/7 or that they haven’t taken any well deserved breaks. I believe the finished game will be well polished and enjoyable, equal to, or even better than, Hollow Knight.

And, I would like to briefly reiterate, that the money Team Cherry has is the money they have earned fair and square. As VinylMorpheus has said, and as I have said before, we gave them our money, they took our money and gave us one of the best games of all time, or merchandise of that game, they did not steal our money or give us some cheap garbage game or cheap garbage merch. It’s their money now, not ours. I hope this clarifies my stance for you.

Cash grab? Really? If it were a cash grab the game would have been puked out the same year it was announced full of bugs and poorly optimized. No, taking as long as they are is either a sign that the game got bigger than they anticipated or things are not going well, but definitely not a cash grab.

Also you know, the reason TC probably hasn't hired more is likely because a bigger team would ruin the creative vision, which subsequently results in the game taking far longer, and also, hiring more people DURING active development would make things worse and ironically prolong development time.
