PERHAPS release delay is connected to the new UNITY license
There are a lot of discussions on the forum regarding the release date of the game. Some argue that development has been suspended due to financial difficulties. Others say that the problem is with Microsoft with its XBox Game Pass.
Perhaps the Team Cherry really planned to release the game in the end of 2023 or at the beginning of 2024. However, as you probably heard, in September Unity announces NEW revamped pricing model. Most likely, this greatly interfered with the developers' plans.

My brother in christ, they're not going to develop it until their QA guy is playing NG+ mode just to restart on another engine. They're not Nightdive

The game has had a massive level of development on Unity and Hollow Knight sold over 2 million copies which is ludicrous numbers for an indie game from a unknown studio when HK came out. Money that Unity would cost is not a concern, they likely are also receiving funds from Microsoft to market the game on the Xbox.

Sure some rando indie developer might move out of unity with a future game but this is one of the biggest indie game releases that is not out. It's basically almost as ridiculous like claiming that some AAA game that is coming out is being redone because it's on Unity.

Unless they updated the version of unity they are developing on, the new pricing model wouldn't apply. Porting the game to another engine would probably be a smart choice though. Personally I dropped unity completely back in 2020 out of annoyance.

I didnt mean that they should change the game engine. I only think that they were shocked during the announce of the new Unity pricing model. Perhaps they still discuss some financial subtleties arised from the new license. We all hear that they wanted to release the game till the end of 2023. As for me, this is the one reason that makes sense.

Unless they decided to move to another engine, what would be the great interference?

Does it really matter when they refuse to be upfront about anything regarding this game anyway?
