Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Dunno why y'all expected anything at the game awards...
SSDD no new info from TC. Pretty much at this point I don't expect Silksong to release, overall lack of info, and non existent communication from TC when they have/had an appointed media guy......

So what do we think happened?

TC gave up on it?

We're getting pranked and it'll just drop one day without our knowledge?

Game is in development hell and it's gonna take another 5 years.

gimme your best ideas

I think they're annoyed at being pestered.
They're a small group of friends, 3-5 people now.
They wont release silksong unfinished, they set themselves to a higher standard that most current game developers/publishers.

it'll come out when it's ready, but jesus ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ christ is it annoying to not get any updates

The notion of a TGA drop was foolish because that costs money. TC is an indie studio and their sequel is highly anticipated already. They don't need to pay to advertise it, people already know it exists. They just need to drop a release date on the Steam store page and within 24 hours millions of people will know by viral channels alone.

The notion that TC has abandoned the game is likewise stupid. They could just release what they have at this point (or even in 2019) and they'd still have made millions. Why on Earth would they, or anyone, walk away from a ♥♥♥♥ ton of money? The reason it isn't out is because they want it to be actually good. As good as it can be. And they're under zero pressure or rush to do that. They don't have a board of directors of a publishing house breathing down their necks. No share holders. Not even any promises to live up to (this is precisely why no release date has been communicated). They can just release it when they're happy with it and it's ready. The fact that you don't know when that is doesn't mean the game has been cancelled, or it's a prank, or any other stupid thing. TC themselves might only have a vague idea at this point of when it'll be out.

As for updates, what do you want? "It's not ready yet." Well, duh. It's not out, anyone here can tell you that already. They're not going to estimate a release date that they might have to walk back on. They're not going to share more game info and spoil the game. There's... literally nothing to share until it's ready. Deal with it.

"We're getting pranked and it'll just drop one day without our knowledge?"

I think it will be this.
Would love to see something radio silence suddenly rise up to most played game.

Guys just accept the fact that Silksong ain't gonna release ever. The game is cancelled. Just go play something else, like Blasphemous, Dead Cells, Hades. Soon there'll be some cool releases like Hades 2, Nine sols, Crowsworn. Who even needs silksong anymore?

Game hasn't been in development anymore for years, they just don't want to deal with the backlash for canceling it officially so they're trying to let it fade away quietly.

I think this is a pretty funny excuse that people have for Team Cherry, considering they've released all but one entire game up to this point. As if other game companies don't hold themselves to a high standard and still manage to at least release games.

I think it's obvious there is a game there but the dead silence isn't exactly a good thing. Way too many times I've seen it happen to games I was looking forward to just for the whole thing to be canceled or deadlocked until the developer goes to court or something. It's in their right to be this silent but I think it's a bad idea all around. Giving an update about a game's development shouldn't be this hard and it would keep good faith with people looking to purchase and play the game.I'm not desperate to play this game, but I'm getting a hunch there *could* be internal conflicts (ect.) keeping the game from even having a release date. Especially since it was (if I'm right) going to be released this year just to backpedal quickly on it.

The problem is that it was so long in development that ideas that they wanted to implement and iterate on since the first game have either been included in other titles that have released in the time since the first release or improved upon by other games. It's taken so long for Silksong to release that when it does it will probably seem archaic by metroidvania standards. I'm guessing their perfectionism put the game in an endless cycle of development and now they don't want to release it because by current standards it will be seen as a relic. My guess is they had a huge scope for the game that they couldn't realistically achieve to begin with and after seeing other new releases they wanted to make their game able to compete mechanically with the competition, and between these two they just couldn't keep up with their evolving vision and eventually saw themselves as so far behind that it was pointless to try to keep up.

They could have struck while the iron was hot, releasing a smaller scale game on a realistic timeline, but instead wanted something that would live up to their own unrealistic standards for themselves, trying to catch up to a perpetually moving finish line. Hollowknight 2 didn't have to be a homerun if it had just come out in a timely fashion. A few improvements to gameplay and some new areas would have been all fans would need to hop right back on board and drop 30 bucks on a new title, 10/10, GOTY.

Now they're in more of a bind because a lot of the good will of the fanbase has dried up due to the extended wait and lack of communication, and to win them back the game will have to be a massive homerun. Heck to stand out in the constantly growing and evolving field of Metroidvanias they're going to have to make one hell of a game and judging by the complete radio silence I do not have faith that this is the case.

I had some miserable hopes that they could shock announce a Christmas release. Well no matter. I just bought TEVI and I'm going to play it during my holidays instead.

No big deal. If it releases at one point, it releases, if it doesn't, there are other good metroidvanias to play.

Exactly this I think they took so long trying to make the game unrealistically large that they put themselves into their own development hell. It didn’t have to be Hallow knight 2 if they just did 1.5 and launched in 2 or 3 years ago it would have been incredible. It doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel it just needed to be Hallow Knight from Hornets perspective.

I just picked up Hallow Knight during the last steam sale and yes some mechanics are tediously dated but nothing that makes it feel too bad. Team cherry is just over developing the game at this point. Or they aren’t working on it at all and let’s it doe considering they are not even being seen . It’s like they don’t even exist anymore
