They're a small group of friends, 3-5 people now.
They wont release silksong unfinished, they set themselves to a higher standard that most current game developers/publishers.
it'll come out when it's ready, but jesus ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ christ is it annoying to not get any updates
The notion that TC has abandoned the game is likewise stupid. They could just release what they have at this point (or even in 2019) and they'd still have made millions. Why on Earth would they, or anyone, walk away from a ♥♥♥♥ ton of money? The reason it isn't out is because they want it to be actually good. As good as it can be. And they're under zero pressure or rush to do that. They don't have a board of directors of a publishing house breathing down their necks. No share holders. Not even any promises to live up to (this is precisely why no release date has been communicated). They can just release it when they're happy with it and it's ready. The fact that you don't know when that is doesn't mean the game has been cancelled, or it's a prank, or any other stupid thing. TC themselves might only have a vague idea at this point of when it'll be out.
As for updates, what do you want? "It's not ready yet." Well, duh. It's not out, anyone here can tell you that already. They're not going to estimate a release date that they might have to walk back on. They're not going to share more game info and spoil the game. There's... literally nothing to share until it's ready. Deal with it.
Yet you're here on this forum.
I think it will be this.
Would love to see something radio silence suddenly rise up to most played game.
They could have struck while the iron was hot, releasing a smaller scale game on a realistic timeline, but instead wanted something that would live up to their own unrealistic standards for themselves, trying to catch up to a perpetually moving finish line. Hollowknight 2 didn't have to be a homerun if it had just come out in a timely fashion. A few improvements to gameplay and some new areas would have been all fans would need to hop right back on board and drop 30 bucks on a new title, 10/10, GOTY.
Now they're in more of a bind because a lot of the good will of the fanbase has dried up due to the extended wait and lack of communication, and to win them back the game will have to be a massive homerun. Heck to stand out in the constantly growing and evolving field of Metroidvanias they're going to have to make one hell of a game and judging by the complete radio silence I do not have faith that this is the case.
No big deal. If it releases at one point, it releases, if it doesn't, there are other good metroidvanias to play.
Exactly this I think they took so long trying to make the game unrealistically large that they put themselves into their own development hell. It didn’t have to be Hallow knight 2 if they just did 1.5 and launched in 2 or 3 years ago it would have been incredible. It doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel it just needed to be Hallow Knight from Hornets perspective.
I just picked up Hallow Knight during the last steam sale and yes some mechanics are tediously dated but nothing that makes it feel too bad. Team cherry is just over developing the game at this point. Or they aren’t working on it at all and let’s it doe considering they are not even being seen . It’s like they don’t even exist anymore
