Regardless, most games make this feature a toggle on/off in settings. And knowing this developer, I'm sure they'd likely have you waste a badge slot on it.
:)
I'm a pretty hardcore metroidvania fanboy, thankyouverymuch, lol. Not that I even need to defend myself in this case coz this is absolutely not a game for casuals nor are hp bars any related to being casual. It's merely a feature that would make the game more comfortable for some people.
You're being childish and are begging miserably not to make the game more comfortable for people. How about, instead of begging them not to make the game more fun for others, you ask for the feature to be optional instead?
Which is where my suggestion comes in again. If you're begging for immersion and challenge, I'm sure you won't want the auto-completing map that marks your position either. So where's the issue if the developers add the health bars, but make them optional through a toggle in the settings menu, or an equippable charm? After playing the game yourself, you should know the developers ideals well enough. If they add health bars, they'll be fully optional and very likely consume a charm slot.
This absolutely depends on the player. Some will greatly welcome it because it's a weight off their minds, others will not enjoy it because they'd prefer to calculate it themselves. So yeah, saying "no clearly" is clearly wrong.
And if the topic creator felt the need to create this topic, it sounds to me like there is demand for it. Yeah, a charm that wastes a charm slot but displays enemy health seems to be a good idea.
1. It doesn't fit the feel of the game
For example, at the beginning of the hollow knight there is no tutorial, but instead a short level the teaches you the game without expressly telling you. Likewise, for boss fights you have to remember the attack patters and try to figure out how close you are to defeating them, which adds an element of exited surprise when the boss finally dies
2. It gives a significant advantage
tanking hits is a pretty effective strategy on its own, but coupled with a health bar, it's very powerful, which means that if the health bar were to be a charm, it should take up at least two slots
I agree, it would be watering down this type of game.
For example, False knight was falling down few times, exposing maggot's head, NKG was going into pufferfish mode at 25/50/75% health, Pure Vessel used explosive aura at nearly 50% health and tentacles when he was almost dead, while Hollow knight was stabbing himself and spitting with infection, Absolute Radiance had 3 clear stages, etc, etc, etc. Thus - solid "no" to ugly simplifications.
Original was famous for it's challenges, so I expect Silk Song will be as well.
Actually the one modded into the first game looks ok.
