Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Is it a prequel or a sequel?
I absolutely loved everything about Hollow Knight and i'm really looking forward to this game.

Anyways i'm curious if anybody knows if this is either a sequel or a prequel. I generally find prequels underwhelming, because although there is room for discovery and storytelling, it doesn't feel like you're "adding" to the story. It's difficult to explain but in general i find it much more difficult to get excited for prequels.

I hope we'll get to know what Hornet's future is, after the whole Radiance business, given the fact that she managed to survive the whole ordeal (being exposed to a ton of void and surviving, etc). I know she gets captured at the beginning of the game, i hope it'll be something like: she was captured because weakened after being exposed to the void, etc.

Well, that’s not confirmed yet, but:

- Team Cherry said they don’t want to make one ending canon, they want every ending “possible” in the mind of HK-players. Hinting towards a prequel.
- there was a member of the team who said it’s a sequel, but it’s unsure for what, it may be a sequel to the game but a prequel to the plot and story.

That’s all I know about that topic, maybe there’s another player who does know more about that.

It seems you skipped the game's description on the store page.

Yes, it says it's a sequel. But it's a sequel to the franchise, maybe not to the plot and story.

I asked specifically because there are a bunch of theories and evidence that suggest that it may be a prequel story and narration wise. The game is a sequel to the first, no doubts about that.

I'm pretty sure the terms prequel and sequel are only fit to describe the place of a story in an overall narrative. I wouldn't call Windows 10 the sequel to Windows 8.

Oddly enough I've seen more people debating on prequel/sequel based on nothing than actually discussing the game's plot. Understanding the narrative first would probably help a lot more answering that question than finding obscure translation lines that may as well just be a leftover from a previous version of HK's plot.

Listen, i'm not here to discuss semantics, it's clear that i want to know if this game is indeed a sequel to the first, storywise. That's it.

Some people actually like to call it like that.

Then it's a sequel unless TC back out and rewrite the game's official description.

I really want it to be a sequel, but it'll probably be a prequel. One of the biggest evidences is that she has moves and weapons (see: spikeball) that she probably got from Pharloom.

I've been holding onto the idea of it being a sequel that takes place after the Godmaster ending. The regular endings to the game offer pretty much full closure to the game's plot, whereas the new ending just screams, "This story ain't over!"

To me, it just seems absurd that they would create such a significant event as that, and just... drop it. They never even officially named the Shade Lord. I can't see them going out on that note with Hollow Knight's plot, when it doesn't line up in tone with the rest of the endings.

most players can't reach the godmaster ending because of the final pantheon, so they really don't know who the shade lord is at all.
I doubt they'll give much more information on the void because it's a whole other kingdom, but we'll see.

So far, I'm not sure we CAN know for sure. I can't tell from the gameplay we've seen so far whether it is a prequel or a sequel. So, I guess we'll have to see for ourselves.

however they did say they started or were working on silksong at the same time as godmaster. i incredibly doubt they would completely drop a resolution to something, aside from the void and the godmaster ending almost nothing is left unadresed in the base game, even if things arent focused on ,they are hinted at to what happend in any given scene or shot.
and plus if that difficulty exclusivity is the case, why not just make like a save scan thing or something? or make another challenge in the same vain to signify that its linked.
