you know we have a modding community?
when i was made aware of it, i got another 3 playthroughs out of it, its got allot of mods for all sorts of stuff, im sure there are some for balance, you could get your fix there if you still wanted to play HK.
You can mod HK? Like make all charms use one slot?
Don;t get me wrong its an above average game tho I question the super meat boy palace bit(white palace was kinda out of no where and not being able to phaze through the saws really pissed me off). other than that I felt there was no real need to try more charm combos(even tho I did like crazy) the only charms that seemed to help me surive where nail charms, and mabye the grub charms.
but anyway..... you can mod HK? *drool*
look man, i cheat sometimes when its fun, im not judging.
its on the discord (also there is a charm that lets you regen 1 mask of hp, makes that easier)

From the demo, tools are depleted upon use, but can be restored at benches by spending shell shards, a material found on enemies and some destructible objects. Shards are not lost upon death, but new tools may require something more than currency (rosaries) to be acquired.
From the trailer, it seems tools are equipped at benches too. However the number of tools you can equip is limited to a crest's capacity. No more info on that though.
I think otherwise, it forces you to pay more attention to what you equip and it doesn't break you out of the action.
And what's this about mid and late game? Firstly of all, you can collect either of the charms at any point in the game. There is no mid or late game in Hollow Knight except when you compare the very start of the game to when you have unlocked the final boss. Secondly, there are extremely powerful charms which are useful even for the fifth pantheon. Those aren't even the 4 or 5 notch ones, by the way. Absolutely no idea what you mean by "underwhelming" and "annoying". In fact Soul Twister, Shaman Stone and any charms giving you more Soul per hit are absolutely overpowered, and so are Quickslash and Fragile or Unbreakable Strength. Grubsong is also really good.
