Suggestions for the 0.24.5 test version
The moat has no significance in this version, nor do the ravines, and even the city walls have lost their meaning. Ladders can be built on the water surface, allowing enemies to climb the walls. Enemies swimming in the water can also attack the walls and dig into the earth walls. This makes your crossbows and ballistae unnecessary to build. Enemies tend to attack the walls rather than advance along the paths you set up.

It might also be some strange bug that prevents them from finding their way

I like the new innovations the AI uses , they actually got into my base for the first time in years, not very far , but I had a bead of sweat for a moment.
Corralling them into a kill box got so boring , I ended up defending my bases by drowning them all , it took 2-3 settlers and I could wipe out 35 attackers whilst everyone else sleep.

I understand your idea, but such an enemy AI will actually make the defenses you set up useless, after all, the purpose of building forts and moats in this game is to make the enemy choose to enter from the direction of your defenses.

They don't make you defences useless , you still have the high ground, and if they reach your walls and have the time to dig through perhaps your defences need a rethink , And if they do make it through after all that then thats ok, the game needs some challenge , some risk of losing , else whats the point. You can play without enemies if you don't like that part of the game , I think its called peaceful mode, but wanting stupid enemy seems weird to me. Each to their own I suppose.

Whilst the game is not really attempting to be like the real world , attacking the front door of a castle is a good way to get killed . long ladders , siege towers, siege weapons breaking walls, sappers ( people who tunnel to break structures above , or to make their way in underground ), climbing ropes fired over walls, all of these were used historically , because a frontal assault would be suicidal, you just would not do it.
I do agree some of the things they can do seem silly, like mining whilst swimming but it is a game.

a possible solution could be using greek fire to get them on the water

but stairs in the water indeed do look a bit silly...they should be using some sort of climbing gear in a more realistc scenario (which would also implicate in slower climbing speed). I also think it shouldnt be possible to attack a wall while swimming..

The problem has been found, it's not a problem with the city wall and defense, but a bug in the enemy AI during the siege.
