Rats
How about putting a cap on the number of rats on the map? I had close to a thousand on a previous game had to quit. Restarted after the hotfix and now i'm back to a couple hundred. That's totally insane. 50 would be enough instead of hundreds.

True, it's necessary that the developers limit the number of rats. At some point in the game I have to stop playing because it becomes untenable and unpleasant. I hope that this solve soon!

yes this please!

Why do we need rats anyway? I hate the little blighters, they give me the creeps. And it's killing the frame rate.

Actually they should get rid of the rats altogether, I now have no berries at all on a medium map because the rats eat them BEFORE they ripen. They eat all my honey before a settler could pick it up. What a terrible idea.

Pretty much par for the course for the updates. There's always at least one terrible idea that no one would want added into each one.

I give up on experimental, after their so-called fix i'm back up to 600 rats. Just can't play this anymore, so stupid.

Same. I start a new game again because I had more than 200 rats on my previous save and... Here we go again: massive rats invasion even after the hotfix...

I had the same problems as you but here are some tips to get rid of rats that work, rats can't get through doors, walls or ditches so protect your crops with them, it's that simple. The number of rats on the map is not important, I think they need food to multiply so store your food on shelves and keep your doors closed, and finally use a tame dog or wolf to kill them.
i like rats cuz i love to kill them lol......
I hope this helps.

Maybe that's the real reason for the end of England in the context of the game? This reminds me of the "plague crisis" lol.
But in reality, this will lead to a large increase in predators and eventually reach a balanced level (perhaps).
PS, I like the video of dogs catching mice.

HI. Cant play game any more due to the number of rats. I have no problem with a design decision to punish poor planning ie lack of pest control leads to food being eaten; but my issue is the problem with actual playability / fps. My typical FPS has now dropped from 60 (+) to about 5. (FIVE). Using 3060ti, with Ryzen 5 5600x.

Yes, that has totally broken the game.
Terrible stuttering once the rats start to be like 20+ on the map even on high end machines. NOT to mention the barely working AI having to sort for 100+ rats means your settlers just dont get updated tasks anymore...... it is sadly becoming a trend by adding new stuff the game just gets more and more unplayable.....

this is all in experimental forums...they updated and you have to make a new save, I no longer have 300+ rats in my first winter

I just changed the json file and adjusted the amount for spawning and breeding. This has seemed to fix the problem.
