animals prioritize apple tree sprouts

animals stop whatever they are doing to go and eat newly planted apple tree sprouts on occasion even if their hunger bar is full.

i've had goats and cows do this. My orchard has a wicker fence around it with a wicker gate but theres no option to lock the gate unfortunately.

on a side note, doors say animals cannot walk through them, yet i see animals doing this all the time. the only time animals seem to not walk through doors is if they are locked, which villagers then cant go through them either.

the idea behind the fence was it limits access to one route that you can have hay / animal feed or berries / herb (throw away patch) just by the gate (my animals eat both if to hungry) they'd have to go past these before accessing the apples

in all cases that i've seen them eating apple tree sprouts they have always been full on food. I tried placing a stockpile with hay, a food trough, and planted food in the path but they ignore that for the sprouts. They only do this with just planted sprouts. if they've been around for a couple days the animals do not eat them.
