How can I preserve textbooks and thesises?
I have a problem about textbooks and the other types of studybooks. They are always decomposed in my stockpile? Which is the most effective way to preserve them?

humm... did you build a floor under your stockpile ?
As above - books need to be sitting on a proper floor, otherwise they decompose. If you click on an item, it will tell you if it's decomposing or not, and why.

iirc books need a roof as well.

Yes, wood floor.

Yes, wood floor.

Well then it must be the roof as Benedicter points out.

Do the bookshelves help in anyway? I just got the game so I know nothing about it yet lmao

The only thing they do atm. is 'when build in combo with research tables in a room' giving you a small bonus.

You can read the exact build spec for the possible rooms it you toggle the room overlay on and hover the pointer over the colors in the upper left corner.

You need at least two shelves present when wanting to dedicate a space as a library, along with the desks for research.

They really should let us use them as an "ingredient" to make the bookshelves, though. Maybe use more for larger shelves, or to make bookcases. That way it doesn't destroy them, but frees up the floor/storage space, and makes the area look like an actual evolving library rather than a giant pile.

There does seem to be a bug that happens where even if you've stored the books correctly that if you've lost some or if they've had a timer before being stored they'll still degrade. Personally think the books should be used up or transformed after using them to buy a research item.

How can I build bookcases? With which research?

decorative something or other.

@zsibaa it's under decorations, then select the bookshelf option (or tool shelf for workshop, pottery shelf for kitchen, etc).

Most buildable items have variants the change the material type (iron or steel armour, wood or stone table) or their actual function like the decorations, or a wood vs a reinforced door

I would be happier if the books vanished once used to unlock a research rather than being there permanently.

Yeah this does seem to be the case. I had my books, in this playthru, always on a good floor. The roof got opened up once for a few moments while I was renovating and a few seasons later I lost 400 books. What a pain to have to make them all again before I could continue research!
