Ice maker
How come in mid winter it keeps refusing to make ice blocks, i see when it says temp isnt low enough but often it just will not make ice. I have two side by side and set them to amount or make until and for some reason only one will work. its sitting next to a rive and it seems like its refusing water. Any input? I have seen them make cubes by scooping a bucket and they will make a few but then it stops working.

How many STEWARDS and CRAFTERS, do you have set below 3 to Craft and work the Ice for you?
I set 2 of mine to 1, and they work it all on Work Schedule.

If memory serves, they don't work under rooves (dirt rooves included).

They work fine under a roof.

Devs might have patched it since then. I defo remember icemakers not functioning under a roof/floor tiles about a month or two back. I remember having to get rid of the roof I'd covered the beehives with to make them work.

As far back as I remember, having them under a roof wasn't a hindrance to working properly. After all, people used to have ice makers underground until that was patched. Now they need to be outside, maybe that's what you're remembering?

I found them more aesthetically pleasing while under a roof and I think they get a slight bonus to production speed as well while under one. I have always put them under roofs in my settlements.

I wasn't playing the game a month or two ago, so I can't confirm they worked then; but it definitely worked a week or so ago when I was trying to put the finishing touches on my latest settlement. They were actually working too well and I needed to add some stockpile space for the ice overflow.

It's certainly possible that there was a bug introduced in an update that caused it to not function. If there was, it appears to be fixed now though.

I just tested it using my old save game. It appears the issue is definitely corrected.
I replaced a beehive under a roof with an ice maker and it's working fine. The temp stat is different now too. Being under the roof is still a detractor because under roof equals higher temps but so does being under snowy weather. I think Meta is outdoor stil though because the colder temp (difference in temp is about a degree between under roof and outside) overpowers the snowy weather debuff. So being under a roof still may be ops problem. I'd be inclined to believe that first since op said specifically he's getting the insufficient temperature message.

Could also just be plain old uncooperative weather. OP never said what his temperatre readings were.

Under the roof is about 1 degree warmer and that one difference is making a 70% difference to production speed.

Hm. Well it still looks better under a roof than just out in the open. Fortunately I don't have any problems with producing ice due to temperatures. I only play on mountain maps though, so winters are supposed to be colder than on the maps of other biomes. I get more than enough ice each season to last throughout the year.

On that we'll have to agree to disagree. I like the outside look myself. But it's situational. On a different map, maybe I'd like under the roof too. It doesn't really make THAT much of a difference anyways I only want a particular amount of ice per year anyways.
The map in my screenie is also mountain. I missing getting below -30c in temperature though. I played mountain to get the coulder temps. Ain't seen anything below -20 >.> Was way more fun to manage :3 My settlement is at the point where I can idle it 85% of the time :3
