Middle of winter and food cellar is still warm
I dunno what to do my food cellar is still above 0, it's two layers down and there's no heat source.. kinda aggravating.

I'm equally flummoxed by how cellar temperatures work.

you need to make tunnels and different rooms, closed off with doors

I've made three rooms and they all stay warm in winter.. I guess I could try going even deeper. Part of me just says to shelf the game until the next patch tho

As in the real world, underground stores don't get very cold (or warm). You need to put ice blocks down in your cellar to get your temp down to around 2C, I believe that is the optimum for food storage. I usually do 10x11 (with roof supports every 2nd block) with a 2 doors at the entrance and put 5 iceblocks in - 1 just inside each corner and another in the centre. Takes them all year to melt and keeps the place around 2.1C. I am generally 2 or 3 flights down from the main living quarters and try not to get under the building.

Ok Interesting, so the first winter make ice blocks and accept some spoilage. I'm in Canada and rural living, so the cellar does get freezing cold but eh whatever, if that's the game mechanic so be it.

If you dig your cellar down below around 10 feet/3m then it would not freeze unless there was external air flowing into it. Even inside the Arctic Circle.

And the deeper you dig the WARMER it gets

you need to open your door in the winter to let the outside cold coming inside the cellar so the temp will go below 0 but don't forget to close when the temperature get warmer when the spring coming.

Make sure it’s under soil and above soil and make sure it has a wall and door behind the stairs. Otherwise it’s a 2-5 degrees warmer.
My cellar have 3,7 C whole year. Never affected by winter or summer.
Some things will rot because you can’t eat that fast even if they lay down for a whole year or longer.
