gates?
so i found out the hard way the palisades are basically useless. the enemies walk right thru them. a description would be really useful on items in this game.
so i removed all the palisades and replaced them with wooden walls but i still have to leave the front open. are there no gates in this game?

The closest thing are the reinforced doors.
those things are for your archers on a second/higher level. It gives them cover from enemy projectile/arrows.

Doors, especially reinforced doors, block enemies
yup - you put pallisades at the top of walls, and then have a floor directly behind them on the same level. the archers stand up top and shoot down while being protected.

Palisades = cover to hide behind. They are like sandbags. If you want gates, build doors.
When you guys say 'palisades', are you referring to the wooden merlons?

He meant the pointy logs. They are not useless, you put them over the walls to cover from arrows.
For them to be most effective you put wooden floor tiles sticking out by 1 tile from the wall. Looks odd but once you put the Merlon on top it makes sense. Put the Merlon on to of that piece with the shield pointing outwards towards the expected attack position. Once built your archers can shoot down through the 'Murder holes'.
