No longer possible to get cold enough?
Previous update had it so a few degrees centigrade was enough to keep your food from spoiling and now it, albeit more realistically, must be below freezing. My question is, however, is it even possible to make a cellar deep or cold enough to maintain that temperature? Not even a room half full of ice blocks gets to 0.

Anyone have any insight?

I've been testing shape depth and size of root cellars. The closer you get to 0 the harder it is to get closer, it's diminishing returns on room size. On valley I'm getting 1.1-1.4c mid spring with a 9X10 made out of wood 3 layers under the surface. That's well within the sub3c I now shoot for when it comes to cold storage. I'm not looking for 0 in a functional fort, what I'm looking for now is sub3c with enough buffer to the temp that traffic doesn't spike it over 3.

Sub 3 C is no longer able to keep food fresh indefinitely. I cannot be cycling my food reserves that often nor would I want my peons to have to deal with constantly removing rotten food from storage.

Not indefinately no, but if you just want food to check it off there's barley and honey. I'm experimenting with yields and efficiency to account for it. Stews last longer than cabbages and over a year sub3, good enough. Roasted meat lasts for over a year.
Smoked meat last 4 years. Packaged meals last forever sub3 don't forget.

You either change your gut intake or deal with the rot....seems not to work much.....I cannot get my underground storage places cold enough long enough to keep my stuff in permanent freezer.....my ice maker never gets to temp underground ever....so I rely on my above ground ice maker in winter....and try to fill it up as well as I can.....I am only making American foods - the ♥♥♥♥.ty chemically castrated junk food (packaged) and dried meats from the smoker mainly....I have given up on keeping anything fresh as it is too much of a hassle - they should add obesity to settlers if all you eat is packaged food....would be actually factual :)
