Can Dirt-Piles be Destroyed...
Because, it it currently taking up valuable room on my underground stockpile. Almost completely covering it.

For me, dirt piles have no use, & they don't rot. My settlers would only leave it on the stockpile thinking it needs to be kept there.

Unless, I am missing something in how to correctly deal with this stuff.

Can you move your stockpile oustide?
Anything that rots in game does it better outside
P.S
When i destroy limestone brick beam it evaporates 25 limestone
I have loads of limestone i don't want so making bricks and destroying em solves my issue :) it take time yes but you can tweek this in json files to suit your gameplay

Use dirt for building or terraforming. Or leave it out of the way.

As others suggest, build a dumping stockpile for your dirt, ash ,etc. outside of your settlement. I also allow human bodies to be dumped on that my dogs shift after enemy attacks

you can also send your dirt wit ha caravan and sell it at anotehr settlement. Better have pack animals as it's quite heavy

The method I use to destroy unwanted non-rotting building material is to first make a line of blocks, then build blocks on top of that line to the limits of stability (usually you can build 3 lines outward from the block below). Once that is all constructed, you demolish the bottom line of blocks and everything above it will be destroyed as well, but won't refund any of the materials.

You will want to do this in an open area so that the above layer of blocks aren't touching anything; otherwise they might pick up stability from some other object and won't be destroyed when you take out the bottom layer.

Piles of resources don't get destroyed (IIRC materials with hit points can be damaged if dropped from a high enough height). You have to construct blocks on top of the initial line of blocks to be deconstructed. Any constructed object that has its stability drop to 0 will be destroyed and won't refund the resources it cost to build them.

I can't stop thinking of this scene from a classic film right now...

I did suggest leaving it out of the way. I didn't make it quite so pedantic as I assumed that you would know that you didn't HAVE to store everything.

In fairness, you asked how it could be destroyed, not how it could be relocated or hauled to a different stockpile.

In fairness, yah. Okay, you got me there. I was thinking and even in that video I shared, we learn that dirt can only be moved somewhere else to later disperse itself. I wonder if they could make dispersal a thing in this game or I could dig some more holes in the clay and limestone and refilled them with dirt columns made from terra-forming.

Besides, I have just started to get my settlers to research just that.

i use dirt to terraform gardens. comes in quite handy in mountain maps...
