Tips for protecting chickens?
My chicken is currently chilling inside my barn so it doesn't get killed by wildlife. Any tips on creating an area for it to be able to hang out outside?

Pen marker and a fence works.

I've tried that. Wildlife just runs through the fences and kills it lol.

Hmm, make a ditch around it and block it off with a solid door if you have the room to do so.

Kill foxes and wolves. Every now and then just check on info screen what wildlife is "available" and select predatory species to kill them. If you keep doing this at some point you will mostly have species you dont hunt - so, if you leave calm animals they will not kill your chicken. Keep in mind that wild cats should be killed as well. And this solution gives extra food + skins ;-)

Thank you! I will wipe the predators out 🤣

One of the first things I do when I start a new save is build a wall, even a wood one around my settlement. That's the only surefire way to keep out the foxes and wolves until you have a hunter that's got a decent bow and armor.

I just build a long house. Say 5 x 23. I separate 4 pens with fences and any door that go in to building put a barn door so you can keep building doors open. I usually have a cow, chicken, sheep and goat pen. I only train the male goats to haul along with asses and dogs. I always release cats.

As long as you have your base surrounded by walls and doors, you don't need to worry about vermin or predators. If you put in a couple of rows of stick traps near a main entrance leaving a path to inside, wolves will usually die there giving you free meat.

I found boars impossible to tame, but since the most recent patch I'll give it a retry since it was "rebalanced".

I use the 'Pit' method. Wait for most of the year until i have time to mine down 1 level. This is where i will have my meat drying and later smelting. I do a large enough area for chickens and a barn. The barn will have 2 levels so sleep chambers can be above. The way to enter is through my Castle. If i meed another entrance i will have a door and behind that a row of traps 1 or 2 squares back. Foxes love chickens and sometimes you just don't get a chance to get them.

Once you have production going try not to scrounge up all the food on the map, then wolves really are not a problem.

If we see the raiders getting ladders in the future then a wall around the pit should work.

Ngl I raged at the fact for hours that I traded for chickens only to arrive back and they get picked off by wolves/polecats before they made it back to my settlement proper. I waged war with all predators. Their grandchildren now know not to touch my chickens. On another note, loooooooooots of wolfskin rugs

stone statues and clay brasiers protect small animals from predators.

Build a mini mote, protected by gates. You can use merlons instead of a mote though too, I think. The braziers and torches look wayyyyy nicer though :P

same not even for the chickens sake but for my food stock sake the foxes and wolves will also eat your food off your stockpiles if it can reach it
torches protect farm animals. make sure to have the whole pen lit up.
And I tame and train wolves. that helps too.
