Crops , Winter and wild life !
So I planted crops and made a fence ( the one made from sticks ) around the fields but still I get wild animal like fox's pass through the fence and eat my crops ! Is that normal ?

Also what crops can survive the winter in the open or I must make underground greenhouse ?

Finally I bought a chicken from a merchant and placed it inside animal barn/fence but it got killed by wild animal while inside the fenced area , is that normal or a bug ?

Fences don't keep out some animals, like foxes and I think polecats. You can protect your crops and your livestock by two methods: fires, including torches, protect an area around them; and walls with doors completely bock animals. You will probably eventually want to wall off an area around your castle anyway, unless you have raids turned off.

All crops will die/stop growing in winter. You can store food for a very long time if you make a cold cellar underground; look for recent guides, since the temperature mechanics got overhauled earlier this year. I don't think greenhouses are possible, because plants require sunlight and the game doesn't have glass roofs.

I have food stored and I did stock up for winter so am good , I just read somewhere that beetroot can survive low temp in winter which seem not correct .

I do have raid unlocked but I dug a path infront of a tower so I get time to kill raider's but that doesn't prevent wild animal so I think I will dig around and build a wooden door to better protect my domestic animal .
