Ideas to defend against archer heavy raids.

Anyone have any suggestions on dealing with master archer heavy, like 34+, raiding parties? my archers just get overwhelmed through sheer volume of fire on the battlements when i try to thin out the archers.
I have a bunch of steel traps around my gates and building some more where archers are likely to fire at the walls from. I also have a 4 door thick funnel entrance lined with windows to melee and shoot through as the enemy works through the doors, but i still tend to lose because the enemy can also shoot through these windows. I just manage to hold out a bit longer than when on the walls because they're funneled a few at a time.

Do you have merlons in front of windows? I use mail armor and helm. Also, they can't shoot at me unless they're in my kill corridor. Usually having 6 archers target one of their archers is an instant kill with heavy crossbows. I then manually target the next archer. I can usually kill 4 really quickly before I can't target. I then cancel action and then let take 1 shot on their own, then kill another 4 archers. Manually targeting an archer not already being targeted causes them to fire much faster.

500 hours in, I don't cheese. Its changeling. Last raid I had 45 master arches plus whatever number of raiders. Had to micro manage the encounter only way for me win. Still looking for non cheese tips. I would like to push up the threat level to max or close to.

I enjoy this game (obviously) but the main problem for me is balance in combat. 150+ plus raiders no archers cake walk (have 18 settlers) you throw in archers and its an actual interesting fight. I still don't think in all the hours I have played I have ever used a sword or anything besides ranged weapons. IMO that needs to change.

I've seen people use merlons with a height advantage and arrows don't get through. Idk maybe they're just lucky

Just use a merlon + height advantage of one wall height and arrows don't get through

Merlon + Window = 95% cover. You'll still get hit with 45 Master Archers but with good armor to mitigate damage gives you time to focus fire the archers down.
