It would be great to add information at what values of "general wealth" and "aesthetic value" one or another state of "luxury" of the room is achieved.
Space =41
Wealth = 6254
Aesthetic = 47.5
It's probably best to tinker a bit with the space you have though.
I only reached the "Luxurious" level of luxury in the "Great Hall" and both chapels, and for the first time I got "Merry" from a settler who has only one "favorite" (1 star) activity. Even though he sleeps in a "shared bedroom" (bonus +2) and wears "Superior" clothes.
If he is also given a private bedroom, he can have "Merry" even with small fines.
Just yesterday, after arranging the base, and before starting construction, each individual task asked the question: “what is the best way to do it? How to equip it to get the best bonuses?”
Your topic came at just the right time for me)
I didn’t understand a little from the description above, as for carpets and mirrors - in my description there is no aesthetic value, I decided that they do not add value and these items are purely decorative. Is there any information on what aesthetic values high quality carpets and mirrors provide??

All my rooms are palatial on the hardest difficulty. Just spam decorations, art, rugs, and gold chests. The Oak Brethren/Church wall decorations alone have 40 aesthetic value and only cost 20 wood
Every wall should be covered except where you have beams. Just doing the religious decorations and rugs take you to luxurious, and adding gold chests takes you to palatial. Use mirrors and art if you have good craftsmen and want to reduce the number of gold chests needed.
from what I've tried, it should be 15 tiles (but maybe it's a percentage of the total room size). Average aest. for palatial you will need somewhere between 60-65, total wealth approximately 3000. And there is probably also a requirement for the overall size of the room.
...there is definitely no need to put gold chests everywhere in the room (the 18 gold chests mentioned in the first post are definitely not needed). Wall decorations, paintings and rugs (of good quality!) are perhaps better than chests because they don't take up a lot of space and add aesthetics too.
Religious decorations and gold chests are the most time efficient way to get to palatial. Art is the most material efficient way, but takes much much longer.
