Can you grow barley in the mountain map?

How do you get barley without seeds?

Barley doesn't need seed. Barley need barley to plant.
And it can grow wild. I'm playing on a mountain map and was able to harvest some and grow more early game before trading.

Just be sure to exclude barley from any recipes until you have enough stored to replant every season.

and also exclude it in your settlers diet otherwise they'll eat it if there's no cooked meals
