Since bears weren't native to medieval Britain...
I know many will cry out all sorts of -isms to me just for daring to ask this, but since you (the developers) yourselves made a point about bears not being native to medieval Britain, can we please choose the diversity in skin colors of our new settlers?

Not trolling btw, it annoys me a lot that in a game obviously and admittedly based on medieval Britain... my random new settlers are so often clearly darker skinned than the average sub-Saharan individual. I would really love for my town in this game to actually look like medieval Britain.

P.s. I could add the standard cowardly "I'm not racist, I have a black friend!", but let's be honest, I have no friends. :lunar2019grinningpig:

Without going into too much detail, POC were not uncommon in medieval times. And ppl didn't mind if you had different skin color - it was a pretty bigger deal if you were poor and/or a non-believer.

Check these things:

You are partly correct, yes your status was way more important than your skin color, but the chance you were not white in those days was well below 1 percent, especially if you think of sub-Saharan dark skin tones. This combined with the fact that different races means different cultures, if there were a large amount (more than 5%) of people in the region with a vastly different cultural background it would becomes far more important that it ever was in the history of Britain, so please don't come to me with revisionist historians trying to pretend half of Europe, let alone Britain was black. It's just insulting.

Edit: so yes, they were extremely uncommon. Heck they even were a century ago and besides, this game made them more common than current day London! Unless you pretend to make the whole of Britain a refugee camp that is... and even then most are from the middle east, not sub-Saharan.

Sorry, your post annoyed me, so please excuse my rant, factual it may be.

Against better judgement, I decided to revisit the topics you linked to. To be fair, I prejudged your reaction because I have seen it so many times over so many years and every single time they are debunked into oblivion. To be fair I decided to revisit your "proof" of, as you call them these days; POC in Europe, while you guys claim this game is in medieval Britain.

RANT (feel free to ignore if you are so inclined)
People of color, because people that only have dark brown and black hair and brown skin have far more color than people with blue, green, brown, grey and any combination color eyes and extremely light to night-black hair. You know...Europeans, better known as "Whites".

Every single link you gave me proves only one thing and that is your own ignorance. Those arguments, documents, studies or whatever you want to call them fall in the same category as all those studies claiming that all Western advancement comes from Whites stealing knowledge from Blacks. The Cultural-Marxist insanity has to stop.

I know you want to make a game to includes everyone without insulting anyone, I truly believe that. I just ask the option that people can choose between actual historic reality and fantasy. So please let those that that hold true believe to those nonsense links you gave create towns with however much racial diversity they wish.

But please, let those of us that know history and also just want to recreate a town of those times, even in a silly (BUT FUN, since I have to admit that) game like this. I only ask for options. If I choose to make a 100% white or black town... does that remove anything from others? Just please add the option.

I think you should stop taking Going Med. so seriously. It's not really a realistic game to start with.
The developers are free to do what they want, in their own artistic fashions.
And just to let you know, yes your topic does actually come off, at least to me, as being ... well... racist.
I'm surprised the Developer even responded. You should really feel grateful actually. Usually they avoid bait threads like this.

Who in their right mind claimed there were no bears in britain? To me that feels like a cheap cop-out on the developers part to add in a hostile mob to the game. Something which the game currently sorely needs

But there are bears in the game. Also, if I'm not mistaken, you can generate whatever characters you like at the beginning of the game. If you hate PoC so much, just make your white wonderland of characters at the start.

Anyway, what a racist pos you are. Haven't heard anyone use the term 'negro' since my dad in the 90s, and even then it was cringe levels of racist.

I think you should see the game as a medieval fantasy rather than medieval sim and you'll either have a much better time enjoying the game for the game it is and leave your racist views out of it, or find yourself unable to let it go which should confirm for you that you do have racist views (because your excuse that "it's historical" would be gone), because you obviously don't recognise it yet.

Thank you Steam, removing my reaction just because it didn't suit you. You really proved your superiority by ignoring my valid claims.

To those that didn't see my reaction to the person above me calling me a PoS, I had a long and based on truth reaction Steam removed because it hurt their feelings....

We are living in a sad world where actual discussion is forbidden.
