You can buy some items from caravan and destroy for clay/clay bricks.

PS I think rocky soil give too low dirt, hope game can make dirt from wastes in the future!!

havent tested it yet but the notes say there is a mine-yield option now, so you could increase the yield from mined blocks (would be for all, but I guess for dirt too)

yeah it looks like rocky soil no longer has clay, now it's dirt and limestone where it use to be clay and limestone.

and grass is just dirt now. so in mountain maps no more clay for me :(

Relying on the random inventories of merchants and caravans isn't really an acceptable option for getting clay on mountain maps. It is tedious and way too arbitrary. At the very least, grassland tiles should still provide some clay along with dirt.

Personally I'm fine with rocky soil only giving 8 dirt, but grassland only giving 3 dirt doesn't make any sense. The same volume of material, without limestone rocks, should provide more dirt than rocky soil. That's just basic math. Maybe grassland tiles could give 6 clay and 10 dirt. Then at least it's providing the same ratio of material as rocky soil and that puts at least a small amount of clay back on the map. After all, limestone deposits give 60 per block. I'm not saying I want grassland blocks to give 60 dirt (that would likely be problematic for hill/valley maps in the same way excess limestone becomes an issue for mountain maps), but 3 dirt? Thinking about it logically, that's just too low.

I would actually prefer if the amount/size of coal, gold and silver deposits were reduced and replaced with a few nice clay deposits (since silver and gold are basically useless and coal can be easily manufactured from wood).

Or as more than a few people have suggested, it would be cool if there was a recipe that enabled us to create clay and/or dirt from combining mined/harvested resources if no clay deposits are going to be added to mountain maps.

If you compare by simple math may be "yes" but Even in real life some dirt consists of air&water mixing in it while Rocky soils are also heavier than dirt (compare by mass and weights of material )..However instead of focusing on realistic I would prefer game balancing more than realistic. And don't forget more dirt the block give ,also more dirt to be rebuilt back. (Every actions cause lose in weight like dirt spill in the air (In real life mining some mineral lost in the water during process),So I just hope that dirt can be rebuilt from wasted and can be eliminate easier otherwise map resource will be depleted/too much by every actions!!)

Its in the game, if you set the difficulty to custom theres a bunch of sliders opening up, but since I now had a look at it, it probably wont help THAT much, the highest setting is 150% of normal.

It in fact doesn't help at all. The mining resource slider doesn't resolve the issue of mountain maps no longer having any clay on them to mine after the update.

Maybe I wasn't even answering to you, the only one mentioning mountain maps specifically? But I guess there are always people who think anything just revolves around THEM.

I didn't think for a moment that you were answering to me. I was pointing out that as clay deposits are quite prevalent on hill and valley maps, the latest update really only affects mountain maps which now have exactly 0 mineable clay in them. Thus the mining resource slider doesn't resolve the issue.

But feel free to be indignant about it. It's no skin off my nose.

for mountain maps. No clay. other posts talked about how to get clay. merchants so forth. or items broke down for clay. Personally I think bricks are a pain. requires 4 resources to make. Clay, wood, sticks and coal.

Not sure but you might have a misconception there, bricks don't need all 4 of those, they need clay and some material to feed the fire so EITHER wood, sticks OR coal.

claiming "it doesn't help AT ALL" when all it doesn't help is YOUR problem, yea how could I ever get the idea...

On this topic, do any of the merchants now sell dirt?
