Maybe since the pen marker includes cows, the game is counting them even though they are hauling and thinks the pen is overcrowded? We'll see...
No action in the pen so far, after a couple more winters, will try this suggestion when the current cold snap finishes... don't want settlers getting hypothermia going out and slaughtering just now...
Does the animal cap apply PER SPECIES or to total number of animals?
In other words, is it the total number of DEER on the map that affects deer breeding in pens?
Or is it the total number of ANIMALS on the map of any species that affects deer breeding in pens?
Per species :)
I did this mistake with sheep.
Can you say something about what the cap is, how it operates, or point me at where the info is?
And finally, after what seems like an excessive number of seasons, an offspring has finally arrived...
Not much to say, really. Check the AnimalBase.json and under each animal, there is "maxCount": accompanied by the number. That number represents the cap size of that animal.
We don't suggest changing the numbers (to increase them), as it may affect the game stability and overall experience.
To save people looking them up, maxcount values (not edited) for various animals are currently (25 July 22):
Deer: 10
Hare: 15
Wolf: 8
Boar: 8
Fox: 10
Rat: 15
Cow: 12
Goat: 12
Sheep: 12
Chicken: 15
Dog: 10
So I have 13 domesticated cows... er... how did that come about if maxcount=12?
(Bug-reported it low priority in case you want to look.)
