Hay today, gone tomorrow...
Hay is harvested from long grass (right?), which grows naturally - but so far as I know there is no way to plant more long grass. No such thing as a grass field.

I may have cut grass rather than harvest it early in my game, so I don't have much grass out there.

Is there any way to grow more grass?

Probably not a huge problem at present, but it would be nice to know.

just to add, gras will spring up naturally, afaik its not bound to how much you cut off the previous year, you can see that with trees, when I dig a cellar in the winter and then let that open hole be, cause during the other seasons my settlers are too busy, there will trees and bushes sprout down there even though none are near.

But as Kenn said, main-source for hay is growing barley

That's good to know, too. Thanks for that.

This seems like a silly question... but can you build a stockpile for hay? Other than a trough? I have been all through the stockpile menu and can't find hay....

yes. hay is classified under the fodder category.
simply make a stockpile, clear all and only select hay under fodder.

Any tips on getting barley seeds? I can harvest locally, but between balancing hunting of deer/etc and everything else to keep my people alive I can't keep up with ONLY harvesting 'natural' hay and barley. None of the traders have brought barley seed thus far...

Edit: You don't need 'distinct' barley seed. Just barley. Which...since it is a grain makes sense, but wasn't something that occurred to me as a game design concept. That's on me. Cheers.
