You have to leave on your armour all year round
The alternative is to dress your settlers up in season suited clothing and when you're attacked, the stupid settlers don't obey your command to dress up in armour!

If you order them, they just go about their jobs as enemies approach. If you press the T button, they just stand ready for battle with their non-armoured gear on.

Is there another way around this folks?

If you have control of a person and right click on armor and choose "Equip so and so", so long as they're not drafted they will immediately go and equip the armor. Key part there being so long as they're not drafted.

Past that you might want to see my response here if you want to literally do combat-preparation management for automatic armor equip; https://steamcommunity.com/app/1029780/discussions/2/3078754982934151968/#c3078754982934169477

But as I noted in that, the penalty for wearing armors usually isn't that much, so I usually leave armors on my people all the time. Leather armors in particular do not appear to have any penalty at all.

IDK I just keep their armour on all the time, only seems to effect them once drafted for battle. It would take way too long to dress every settler each time there is a battle.

"oh shoot here come the raiders...wait wait I'm still getting my boots on"
LOL

You're spot on! It's ridiculous! I lost one of my best settlers because of it. He didn't even die. He lay there bleeding, and instead of tending to his wounds, the one settler who was conscious decided to go off and have a burger! When she returned he was a corpse. What in the world is wrong with my settlement!

Gotta make sure "Tend" is a #1 job priority, should take effect over self-preservation even I believe.

Errr, what? Apparel and armor are different. Your settlers can wear their summer/winter clothes AND armor at the same time. So why would you bother taking the armor off?

I would love to be able to assign them weapons, armor, and a defensive position and then during attacks you could just toggle on "To Arms" mode to auto equip battle gear.

I would be content with being able to drag and drop my characters positions on the side bar...reorganize my characters so its easier to group them based on their strengths

With you on that when I'm drafting all for the fight , the selection process is tedious , I want to select ranged separately from melee at least. One missclick and you have to start your draft selection all over, because it seems you cannot deselect once selected , a re-click zooms into the particular character . Be nice to have he ability to select by defined group.

Making things "belong" to specific settlers would be a huge improvement...and not just items, but bedrooms and workstations...would solve a lot of tedium!!!

Also, I've gotten out of the habit of having armor and arms on all the time...it causes unnecessary wear and tear.
I've noticed with the latest changes, my settlers' clothing degrades much, much faster than before.

MOST importantly, check your presets...every update is suspect for changing or erasing them and their contents.
