Cellar, Flooring, and Temperature
I'm pretty new to this game and noticed that some floors make my 3rd level cellar warmer. On the other hand, my cellar is one big open space walled with clay. Without floors, the cellar stays around 1 C in sunny spring days.

Is there a way to mitigate this temperature/flooring issue?

Walls and floors "retain" heat. Remove the walls and keep it as the natural earth. Also, try to build your cellars with a layer or 2 of natural earth above them. As far as flooring, you need floors otherwise your food will decay, which supposedly also generates heat. So a solution is to floor only the room you're gong to use for storing food, and then build another room connected to your cellar that has no floor to act as a sort of heat exchanger.

The current temperature mechanics will more then likely be changing in the coming updates.

If you need anymore help on this, try looking at the guides. There is one on how to build a cellar that actually works with the current games mechanics.

don't use anything other then dirt for walls and floor that isn't occupied by storage. Flooring is mandatory for stopping decay still, you could just use sticks, the only difference to your villagers is the movement speed, but to the thermals there is a small difference

ANYTHING added by you in the room will add heat. including supports so don't use em
Better bet, as digging out the room leave a pillar of dirt every 4 spaces, ie 3 spaces in every direction like a waffle pattern. Bigger the room the better, build a corridor atleast 3 spaces leading into the room with a door at the entrance.

Flooring is only under the stockpile and leave atleast a 1 space gap to any outerwalls, excluding the collumns. no walls, no lighting,

The deeper you build them the colder they will be naturally, however storage isbest kept between -5 to 5 degrees so you don't want it too cold anyway. 2 levels down is enough to counter heat waves

Thank you for all the insightful replies! I will try them out next time I build my cellars! :D
