Game no longer working
I wonder if you guys n gals can help please - disclaimer: I am sure this is not the fault of the devs, but Steam support has been terrible and essentially washed their hands of this problem and now I have a game I can no longer play.

The game has been installed on my PC for ages, been working fine. Around the time of the latest update, it began to have update issues. The game constantly says it has data to download, it downloads and seems to install it, then it goes through the whole thing saying it is validating. Once it completes it then says "stopping download" and goes through the whole process again. I think this must have happened around 20 times.

I have tried "verify local files" and I have tried emptying the download cache, but nothing seems to fix it.

This was the first reply I had from Steam Support:

Sorry to hear that you're having issues and I appreciate the troubleshooting you've done. No worries, let's see what we can do.

Upon checking, it looks like you are experiencing a corrupt content files error while trying to install Sniper Elite 5. This error indicates that after downloading, Steam detected that files currently installed for games are corrupt or missing.

Our Update & Installation Issues article has steps for resolving this issue. You will want to make sure that you perform the following fixes as they pertain directly to the error you are experiencing:
Verify local files
Check RAM for errors
Check Hard Drive for errors
Disable Overclocking

If you've tried all of these and are still encountering the error, please let us know. If anything changed after performing the troubleshooting steps from the article above, make sure to include that information as well.

I replied stating I had tried all of those things, and I am as certain as I can be that the problem is not with my computer as such, but rather with either the installation or something has gone wrong during the update. I can't account for that.

Steam Support told me it wasn't their problem any more and to seek outside technical help, which wasn't really helpful.

I'm clutching at straws here but all I'm left with, I guess, is reinstalling the game - which I'd like guidance on please, as I don't want to lose any of my unlocks, achievements, progress, saves etc.

Your help is much appreciated!
