To this I answer "Cancel" since I don't log in or use the platform for anything anymore and am not interested in needlessly sharing the information to the Epic platform.
With testing I can see that it always happens a couple seconds after the main menu appears on game boot up. Probably during the friends online check if I had to guess. Looking further on this thought I noticed the Epic Games logo at the bottom in the friends menu with the bullet loading animation running endlessly. Might I suggest a checkbox or something there to enable/disable that check? I imagine that is the feature that is shooting the link to my browser when it hits the permissions check.
I picked off this URL with a screenshot before it updates to the landing page URL if it helps:
(I left the 8 character code out of this URL but that is probably populated using some code magic string generated from my steam info)
Is there some kind of setting or .ini thing I can flip to turn this function/procedure off at the main menu? It only happens on game boot up and not after returning from missions, etc. Considering the info above I tried flipping the "Crossplay" option to off thinking it might disable checks to Epic Games but it still does the same thing. I looked through as much as I could with the in game settings but couldn't find a way to turn it off.
I appreciate any help you can provide.
I suggest to send it directly to the dev team right away.
This has been registered with the team. We appreciate your patience.
Hi!
I'm having this issue as well, where it opens a new browser window or tab in my default browser, and then steam thinks the game is running all night because despite closing the tab for the games store I don't use to link an account that I don't use, it still decides that "oh, browser's open, much mean the game's still running" and artificially massively inflates its playtime.
Is there any further info on a fix for this issue? It remains incredibly annoying, and is making it look like I'm playing games, sometimes for hours after the start of my shift, instead of being logged into work, and, you know, working.
This started happening for me as well (since Season 2 was released, I believe). I haven't touched my Epic account in ages, and all the Sniper Elite games I have were bought through Steam.
Please disable this functionality until it's been fixed. It's very annoying for the game to auto-open any other application (including a browser).
