Decoy
What exactly is the purpose for the decoy. I thought it would fool a German into thinking a certain location is guarded and then I noticed it says it's a trap. I thought when a German goes near it, it will blow up. The Germans adjust something from it and run off with it. I might be answering my own question. Is it to divert a German elsewhere?

As you say, it's just used to divert the German soldiers to the location it is located at.
I just wish that the timer for it to activate was longer. Maybe adding a third time selection, where it is much longer. This would give you enough time to place it, run around (re-locate) somewhat far from the area, and then have enough time to watch the soldiers shoot and approach it (and then maybe shoot the enemy soldiers from your new location).

It's rarely used.

They work best for big threats like tanks IMO, keeps them busy enough to let you sneak past, or place a satchel on them.

im not totally sure about it but in active invasion the jager might confuse it as u looking through a scoped rifle.

I’ve seen an AI “defuse” and take down and remove a decoy after it had cautiously crept up to it.

They're less likely to do that if one of their tanks is shooting at it. LOL

EXAMPLE: you're moving right and want the enemy trailing you to go left (to get 'em off your trail) plant a decoy on the left. They get distracted chasing a helmet on a pole. "Decoy".

They are completely useless. I have NEVER been able to distract an enemy with one, nor have I ever seen one try to shoot it. They have absolutely no tactical nor strategic value, and I've played this game for over seven hundred hours.

In my experience, the option to sabotage generators is far more bugged. Too many times they just ignore them, whereas with Decoys, pretty much every time I place one, it attracts foot troops and even tanks.

You just have to use common sense in where you place them.

Common sense nothing! I'm ex-military, and I have quite enough common sense, not to mention experience. They do not function as advertised. They do not function at all. They are just as useful as the toy car radio lures in Generation Zero...which is not at all.

Stick a fork in me; I'm done here.

Says the guy who thinks he needs multiple keys for the sub pen area of Rubble and Ruin, in a thread he claimed to be a tip for "FNGs". Were you the one guy in the military that remained an FNG the whole time he was there? LOL

"Common sense", pffft, I have a Mark Twain quote for that which seems to appropriately apply to you, "Common sense ain't so common".

Yes! Then you know the decoy works.
