Black X

Ive been seeing black X's on buildings, my gamer instinct says that i should blow it up or at the least do something with it. is there anything with them, is it just a German ww2 engineering thing i dont understand, im confused

Screen shot would help , but old buildings used to have tie rods fitted , this was a steel bar that went right through a building under the floor boards then out through the brick work , a large cast iron cross was then slid on and large nuts were tightened up to hold the building from getting bulging walls. This is what you may have seen , not played this game for a while now so i cannot remember ,but name the Map as well.

the spray-painted X right? I think they mark loot in the building.

You can see that in Spy Academy, they are all over the place (if this is indeed what you meant).
I don't believe they have any significance, they are purely architectural, as StIgGa said.

Those are 'building ties' used even today to support old walls.
