Pistol and secondary AP also works too but rifle is easier to aim and is high power - the engine glows red whilst you’re aiming through any smoke and flames that are coming out the back.
Same technique with the tanks you’ll come across later in the game - except they just have one engine cover right at that rear.
Panzerfaust is ok to have a play with but honestly don’t waste your time with grenades, TNT, satchels or mines.
Footnote: Some folk say there is an occasional glitch whereby the vehicle can get immobilised but just won’t blow - I’ve never had that at all.
Satchels are the best way to go. Panzerfaust works good if you pop them from behind (head on sometimes takes two PFs). TNT, 'Nades, and such will work if the AC is already damaged--but it will likely take more than one TNT/Nade to finish the AC. Set Teller mines to the vehicle setting to get a mobility kill; you can then leave the AC to sit there, or finish it off in whatever manner you choose. Tellers work good for setting up tank kills too!
BTW: You can kill ACs by setting off any red barrels and/or red welding tanks next/close to them. I've done this a couple of times to the AC guarding the bridge in the Liberation mission. Good luck!
If you are facing the front of a scout car and don't want to get closer, your best bet might be sniping the driver and gunner. There are four small window slats on the front and frontal sides of the scout car. If you use AP shot you can destroy these window slats, then snipe the driver and gunner inside. The driver is in the driver's seat (duh) but I can never figure out where the gunner will be, sometimes he seems to be behind the driver, but other times on the other side. Use scope assist to hover over the slats until the target turns red, then shoot.
If you can get at the scout car from the side, an even better way is to destroy the engine. The scout car has a little slat on the rear side. Destroy it with AP shot then shoot at the engine which is kind of low inside the hole you have just made. If you have a high-powered rifle it will blow up the scout car with one AP shot.
Satchel charges I don't bother with. it basically just knocks out the scout car's wheels and immobilizes it, but really only half damages it. You still have to destroy the engine or kill the driver and gunner.
Grenades and TNT charges are a gamble, you can waste a lot of them trying to destroy a scout car or tank.
One panzerfaust will knock out a scout car's wheels but again you still have to do more to destroy it. The best way to use a panzerfaust is to shoot at that engine slat on the rear side of the car. If you're lucky you'll destroy it with one hit, or at least damage it enough so you can shoot the engine and destroy it with one more shot.
If you shoot the engine on a scout car or tank and it starts making a repeating banging noise, eventually it will blow up and destroy the vehicle.
I find that if I use a Kar98k with max power I can destroy a scout car with one AP shot to its engine. If I use a G43 or Lee-Enfield it takes 2 or 3 shots, but if I hit it once then it starts flaming and making the banging sound, so I run away and eventually it blows up and I don't need to waste more ammo on it or put myself in danger from its mg turret.
