Drive D: is a 1TB drive which I keep clean and defrag for games.
My next system will 2-3TB on D:. Everything else will max out big time, RAM, video, etc.
Might as well for future games.
Exodus was CLEARLY a mediocre console port in every aspect including grafics.
As time goes on, games get larger and larger. Among numerous things, some of it is due to the level of graphics.
I bought the Modern Warfare remake last night, and coupled with the required "Warzone", the download size was over 180Gb.
The MW2 remaster (2021) is 80Gb, the original from 2009 is 12Gb
The rest of that 180+GB was for the MW remake, and the graphics for that game is freakin amazing, which is the point.
Seems you're having trouble understanding, so I'll make it as simple as possible.
Game size get larger as time goes on (as it always has and always will) due to many things, such as graphics.
80+GB for a modern title with modern graphics is the new norm, get used to it.
Game size vs. drive size has always been a thing, even back when HDDs and games were measured in Mb, and memory in Kb
Before you start tossing around too many insults as if they are arguments, it might be worth considering that games made by different developers are going to have different design priorities, features, and methods in which to control the install footprint.
So whenever the size issue comes up, I always think about my current DCS World (a combat flight sim) install. Right now, it is a bit more than three hundred gigs and while many complain about the install size, it is pretty easy to see why it is as big as it is. Shockingly enough, it is mostly due to very, very high resolution textures because the developers need to take all the 4k and even perhaps 8k players into account. Something as routine as a texture file can be MASSIVE even when one might not think so at first glance.
In the case of Metro Exodus, there are a lot of repeated textures and assets throughout the game that help soften the install size blow. It is a gorgeous game but even with the big levels, they were clearly able to save space because each level was very visually consistent and there were lots of opportunities to repeat textures and models.
Like it or not, the new standard for a game is around 100 gigs. Not all games are going to come in that big but we are well past the point where self-righteous indignation about it will get you anything but a bit of a chuckle. Sniper Elite 5's 85 gig install size isn't surprising and it isn't egregious. You thinking it is doesn't really change that for others and others are not wrong for not being as offended as you are about it.
