[Story Spoilers] A Somewhat Comprehensive Guide To The Lore Stuff, Probably
EDIT 1: Formatting error. I did a dumb. (This is actually part of edit 2 but that's still the first edit i made so oops)

EDIT 2: im dum and didnt realize there was actually a guide segment and i feel too lazy to repost this there blaaaaaaaugh

A forewarning: This applies to Standard Mode only.

A second forewarning: This guide is going to be punchy. It may hurt your feelings in way Eleanor may not have ever dreamt of.

A third forewarning: If you value your sanity, it is recommended to do all of this at no Entropy levels. I know the game is easier than its predecessor in all the many ways you can blow the game wide open (Beam Enthusiast is literally the best thing to ever exist and I will stand by this fact), but if you do not want to die in the process of doing some things listed here, don't make the game harder.

Oh, and like, this is your last chance to back out of story spoilers. Okay? Okay.

(batterymaplesyrup pls give us the ability to toggle on the 20xx remix tracks in their respective stages kthxluvyoubye)

Okay, so basically, if you've been playing past what I believe was version 0.50, you are most likely aware of the "Device."

Or if you're completely new and don't know what this is... This is basically the "main story" or unlocks to the good ending of the game (which I think is kinda bugged in multiplayer, as me and a friend did it and text kept skipping and I'm not sure if there's supposed to be a new credits sequence or not because I've yet to actually obtain the true ending in singleplayer. I'm a coward, yes, but that's not what I'm here to discuss.)

So, basically, this is going to serve as your checklist on how to do the things and stuff and eventually you'll see the things that I haven't (yet). Got it? Let's roll.

The Device
From what I am able to gather, you obtain the blueprints for this thing by just.. beating a run. (it's been a while, so my information may be incorrect, please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). This is the easiest of the things to get and it's basically your first step. Obtaining this and talking to Alexia will open up an area to the right in the hub (it used to be the left when the hub used to be Highvault) and... well I don't recall if you'll teleport in but you'll teleport in and there should be the blueprint for the device on a shelf. This is your first of twelve items you're going to acquire in progress for the true ending. From here, talking to Alexia (or interacting with the device? I'm not sure if they've changed it since) should bring up a window with four question marks and hints on how to unlock.

These are your next four items. They can be attained in any order.

Imbued Chronovane *
This is probably one of the trickier items to get. Well, a certain few are, but this is one of the ones that has remained the most difficult for me due to the RNG factor.

You will need three items:
Time's Anchor
Broken Hourglass/Hoot's Hourglass
The Spinny Arrow Thing I Can't Remember The Name of (It's like an arrow pointed left but I don't remember its name, argh

It is not recommended you do this if you do not have World Configuration or Recon Network, as you need to avoid a stage because if you get the third item- or any of them- in the stage, you will NOT unlock the corresponding item and you have to restart your run. THIS APPLIES TO A GOOD CHUNK OF THE ITEMS and as such will be noted with an asterisk. *

Once you have these three items, go to Highvault . The level will be.. different for obvious reasons. Just beat it (it's rather easy if you take your time and I'm pretty sure you're supposed to anyway), and collect your prize.

Coalesced Entropy *
Not to be confused with the Entropy Shards/Odd Shards you obtain from beating runs at higher levels of Entropy. This one's easier due to its required 4 items:

The Vagrant Armor Set

It's another RNGfest, ESPECIALLY if you don't get lucky in Glory Zones. The stage you want to avoid is Deepverse/Legacy . Before you go there, MAKE SURE TO ACTUALLY EQUIP THE ARMOR!!! Not doing so will NOT trigger the alternate stage conditions. Just head in once you have, do the stage, and... you'll get it.

Multiversal Map
Arguably the easiest of the items to obtain. Read all of the datalores, Echocave's in particular. The forbidden knowledge is highlighted in red text and basically hard to miss, but it will require multiple runs to acquire. Input "waveformcollapse" into the Seed Racer mode and do the level, obtain the item, and.. die. It will carry over, don't worry.

Sealing Record Key
Hey, are you good at platformers?

This one is most likely the easiest to *notice*, since if you're new to the game, you probably already saw it, but just didn't know how to do it. Or somehow did before you even started a run. If you did, that's impressive.

In the tutorial, go back to the very start once you have Nina and the Zen Mortar. Defeat the 30XX incarnation of Kur, I'm pretty sure that's an upgraded Kur anyway... I miss Quint Laser. Best weapon in 20XX. Bring back the vending machine obliterator, goshdarnit! and then get the item.

Oh and did i mention this is a two pa-

Essence of a Sealed Hero

Surprise! It's two items in one. But this one is also kinda easy, and you'll probably figure it out because it's kinda hard to miss. Well, it might be, if you're blazing through the game and not bothering with the datalore. With the key, go to Echocave and find a datalore capsule. One should spawn after the miniboss.. and you have the option to use the key. Use it, and bam! Item's yours.

And that's all of the device! Once you've done this, you can interact with the device again. Going to the middle of the screen, you'll see nine platforms... and at this point, there should be four capsules on them. Three of them take you to their respective levels of acquirement, and the last... will take you back to the past. Yeah this is a time machine!

Watch the respective cutscene, and a new capsule will open up. Complete the level inside, and MAKE SURE TO LOOK AT THE DATALORES. I'm sure beating the level without them still gives you the hints, but the hints from the new capsules alone are not enough.. well they weren't for me so they might not be for you. I dunno. ANYWAYS, the second half!

Once you have done the level, the top platforms will spawn more capsules. The following items can be obtained from their hints:

Compressed Chronopulse

Another rather easy one, but if you haven't played the game enough it may be tricky.

To get this, beat Eleanor in the Rush Job mode and the item will spawn in the big long hallway she blows out of the wall.

Causation Invalidator *

Another RNG mess, although this one is on the easier side, and is actually referenced to by one of the achievements. If you know, you know. If you don't:

Obtain three prototypes, any will do, but do NOT use the System Restore item! I think? Maybe. I don't know. But once you do, you can go to Burning Temple.. and you'll ransack Delta's home, question his property choice and realize you just skipped a level. Yeah, doing this will SKIP the Burning Temple level with no powers, augs, or anything, so I hope you weren't achievement hunting and trying to kill two birds with one stone.

This is easy to attain if you get The Volunteer through the Smuggler. Recommended to overclock the Smuggler trading to re-roll their items.
Fun Fact: I somehow accidentally did this and the next item in the same run.

Memento of Harmony

This is actually out of order, but since it's actually best if you do this along with the previous item, I'd recommend doing so. I dunno. Unless you don't like punching yourself in the leg... and the arms.. and the everywhere.

Beat all of the main 8 without picking up any of the Boss Powers, or picking up any Cores. I am NOT sure if Primary Weapons are affected here, but I am considering they are under the blanket ban.

If you are doing this, your run will basically end like the Multiversal Map. Or at least I think it did, because I couldn't go anywhere else without dying. So no Level 10. Or really, the real level 9.

Cathedral Coordinates *

This one actually stumped me for a while until a friend figured it out. I'm not sure the exacts- another comment elsewhere mentions having 50 Scrapbits, but we had less when the thing happened. You'll know when it happens, because it happens in the Dustria teleporter. (Not spoiling because it's WAY easier to figure out than like most of the other things, but, if you scrolled down this far, boo hoo on you. Why are you reading this even?)

But yeah. Do the level there, get the thing, and dip. The less respawning enemies the better...

Once all of these are done and Alexia has been talked to enough times (oh yeah! Talk to her. It's important), the final central platform will spawn in the Device.

Memento of Devotion

Do the level. There's no tricks here, just don't die. And if you're doing this multiplayer, don't die. You will not get the item otherwise.

Once all of this has been done.. just talk to Alexia again. If you're like me, and you thought you found the thing you need for the last item... congratulations!

...You're wrong!

THE FINAL ITEM: Symbol of Peace **

This one, in of itself is basically the giveaway. If you know something that it's related to, you know where to find it. If you were like me and thought the thing RELATED to it is what you needed, uh, no.

For context: There is a prototype called the "Symbol of Submission" that ends your run after Eleanor and disables all the bosses for the rest of the run. It's really a gag item if you don't like Stage 10 for whatever reason.

So, to acquire this thing... unfortunately, it's all down to luck... You have to attain it from any Very Safe Lab before the Eleanor fight, and I'm sure it only spawns if you've done Scripture and have all the other story items necessary. If you don't get it before then, it's a reset.

Getting this item during the run will net you the True Ending and its respective (if broken) cutscenes. So, all in all, don't do it in multiplayer. If you're not good at the game, don't worry! Someone else has probably found a seed that spawns it in. I wonder if this can be done in Seed Racer anyway. I mean, if one of the items is locked behind it...

..I wonder if anyone's encountered the secret seed through random gameplay as is. Questions for another time, I suppose.

So, uh, yeah. Feel free to correct me if I messed anything up. I probably won't edit this unless the methods change somehow someway. If the DLC comes out and there's more story, I might make a guide for it. I don't know. This was mostly a "for the funny" thing, but if it's helpful to people, then my mission is accomplish.

This is helpful for me, been wondering how to get the bottom 3 items on the rightmost side of the room with all the meta progression checks.

Perhaps you could already put this up in the Guides section, and have a disclaimer "subject to updates".

I can confirm you can find the symbol of submission without all the other story items (in fact, i only have the blueprint). Happened to find it in a Very Safe Lab while doing a Rush Job and left me very confused. Got the Compressed Chronopulse from it.

Thanks for the Guide, that being said, I haven't saw that symbol of submission/symbol of peace once run after run. I'm guessing that's extremely rare for those to show up?
Avater Aug 13, 2023 @ 7:33pm
Finally saw it after another couple of run and reset
If you someone run into the same trouble hope this seed help
rzcwvz I do have volunteer Aug on start and it should be in L3 Deepverse
Hopefully this helps
EDIT 2: Oh there are 4 pieces to the Vagrant's set? I must have assumed 3 was all of them because I never saw the arm piece in any run.

I've been trying to get Coalesced Entropy, and brought the full Vagrant set to level 8 - Deepverse and saved the game right before.

However the level played out as normal :( . Was there something else I was meant to do? Or did I encounter a bug from saving and quitting at that point?

Edit: I even tried reloading the save and turned off all armor except Vagrant's. I then proceeded to save and quit and check stage 8 again: Same issue, regular stage loaded instead.

Were you playing Mega Mode? I had a similar issue as you. Deepverse was displayed as Lvl 4 but I avoided it and went for everyone else. managed to get 3 vagrant cores, so i replayed a few stages and managed to get a 4th. But when I went to Deepverse for the 1st time with all cores equipped, it was just a normal level...

Haven't had luck getting 4 vagrant cores on Standard mode yet. My most was 3 oores.
Oh it was Standard mode.

Sorry to hear it happened to You to (albeit the mode being different). Did You save right before entering or did You immediately proceed straight to the teleporter?

I went straight for Deepverse with the 4 vagrant parts, but also with some other armor parts too. I quit back to hub and only equipped the 4 vagrant parts, but no luck either. Does Deepverse have to be a specific stage, eg stage 8?

I noticed the hub shop in Mega mode might have some armor cores for sale (inventory variety increases after every stage you beat).

But I've never seen the before-next-run shop in Standard mode have any armor cores..

Scrapper doesn't sell core augs before a run, but can sell core parts for scrap in a run.

Delta can sometimes provide them for a reward, too.

I'd recommend checking Dally, see if a vagrant part is an option, and if not, quit out. Bonus if you get Delta on level 1 to provide a vagrant part, too.

Additionally, rerolling a core part (if it's on the ground/in a shop) will always reroll it into a different core aug, which can be vagrant parts. It's extra helpful to have the rerolls maxed out as much as you can to increase your chances of completing the set. Delta can also reward more rerolls for challenges too which can also help.

+1 to this - I recently managed the 'Speedwalker' achievement after finding the Symbol as one of my options from Dally at the very beginning of a run (yeah, apparently a run with no bosses or level 10 counts. Who knew?)

Seems like grabbing primary weapons does count against you for completing the game without cores or powers. Though I still got the achievement for it... it might be because I also snagged the Symbol of Submission?

I had something very similar happen (grabbed the symbol of submission and also a shot-shaping power in the same run). That said, the text in the "device" room says "finish a run without Cores or Powers", so I think that's pretty clear what it means. Makes sense to me that the secret ending requirements are all slightly stricter than the ones for the achievements.

Yes, grabbing beams as Nina (not sure if weapon upgrades for Ace counts against it, because if I remember correctly they count as augments, but did both tries as Nina) invalidates the unlock but grants the achievement, the symbol doesn't prevent you from obtaining it. For example I did various achievements with the symbol.

Oh no no, I'm not talking about weapons themselves like Lucavi, Thanatos and the rest, I was talking about the upgrades like Resonant Saber and such. Grabbed a clip that I did the other day with Thanatos and Graceful Spinning and can't see the upgrade on the weapons/cores part so maybe it can be used for that run.
