But yeah I don't really have timelines yet. I do know Unreal Engine is gonna stick, I have already got the core concepts down and I am almost done with my first attempt to weave them into a full game. Also I am absolutely loving Unreal Engine and it feels like ive already 2x my abilities as a game developer. Very happy with the decision. It is a LOT to learn though. I'll probably have atleast one more game before I'd attempt The WILDS rebuild as it is the most complex game I've attempted to date and I don't want to put myself under too much pressure too fast.
Hello, just to know. Is there any troubles with unreal with their last anouncement?
Thanks! Reveal of the new game is next week! It definitely shares some similar mechanics with The WILDS but it is less complicated/ambitious. I have like 2-3 total short (6-12 month) games planned, each kinda testing different game dev areas I'd need to make The WILDS. Hopefully when I finish them I will have all the tools I need and a really good understand of Unreal and we can rebuild the game better than ever.
just a quick question, will the game be rebuilt in that file on steam or will it be a new one to pay for? Just curious X3
Definitely going to do my best to make sure everyone who owns The WILDS gets the rebuild free. I'm not sure if it will just replace the existing game (my ideal route), or be a separate one if the rebuild is wildly different in some way (someone else told me on the forums you can give everyone that owns a certain game of yours free access token to another game you publish? but I still haven't looked into that). I could also just do tons of codes in the discord.
TLDR no intent to charge anyone for the rebuild, just not sure the route I'll take.
I have played games from unreal engines and they are spectacular. The key as a developer though is to make it playable. The ease of playing the characters. I hope you are successful and i will purchase your game based on your respect for the community that supports you.
Thanks for the kind words! I don't know how I've gotten so lucky with such a great community around my games. It makes the whole process much more enjoyable for me. Unreal Engine has been great so far and I think it's going to empower me to do some amazing things. I am still missing the style/vibe I had kinda developed with Unity but hopefully that will come with time.
