Stuttering, small hiccups in performance?
What's up with this game's performance? It just starts stuttering randomly for no apparent reason always at different places. Memory leak? Something with loading new segments? Vsync problem? Game needs older drivers? I really liked the first one and want to enjoy this too but when it comes to brawlers or fighting games a solid 60 fps is a minimum requirement.

What is strange is that it's not happening at specific parts of the game, it just starts to do it sometimes because reasons, it doesn't matter if it's the most crowded part of the level covered in people and flames or just Shnak running casually from one fight to another: sometimes it's a smooth 60, other times it stutters.

One obvious thing to say would be is that my PC is not up to snuff but I highly doubt that my i7 3.4 ghz CPU, GTX 560 and 8 gigs of ram couldn't handle this game: CPU usage is quite high but far from 100%, my GPU is silent and memory usage is nearly non-existent while playing. A 2D game that stutters? Come on, Klei, how on Earth is this possible?

Did some testing and tried a few things: disabling vsync shows that it's clearly not a performance problem as my avarage fps is around 250. Also Fraps doesn't show drops in the FPS while the game is stuttering so this leads me to the conclusion that this is a vsync / frameskip issue. Windowed mode with leaving Aero on fixes the issue because then Win7 is using it's own vsync solution to sync the game but sadly there is no borderless windowed option so playing with a misalinged screen 1080p screen is not really an option. Any other solutions to this? Also, Klei, please fix your vsync, a beat 'em up shouldn't skip frames. I mean come on.

Edit: Found a fully working solution so here it is written down in case others run into this issue.

- Leave on Aero during gameplay in Windows 7 (you can also disable vsync in Shank 2 through your video card driver settings just to make sure)
- Start the game
- Go into Help & Settings, select your preferred resolution but disable full screen so the game goes into windowed mode. You'll have an ugly border around your screen.
- Download the program Borderless Gaming from here:
https://github.com/Codeusa/Borderless-Gaming/releases
- Extract the archive to anywhere on your computer and start the application
- Under the processes in Borderless Gaming you'll see Shank 2 if it's running. Apply the borderless windowed mode to it.
- You're done. Enjoy your frameskip free, smooth 60 fps Shnak 2. :)

Thanks for this. I'll keep it in mind if I get issues with it.

Thanks for posting what you found here. I was wondering too about these stutters but didn't find any threads. Hope Klei fix this.

After a few hours of intensive gameplay here's the thing: sadly this fix is only a partial solution. The stuttering still happens occasionally though very rarely and the effect doesn't last as long as before. My knowledge stops here, so Klei, please have a look at this problem.
FPS drop is still relevant. and the funniest thing. There is a drawdown even on the RTX 4090, which indicates a software problem with compatibility with modern hardware
